John Reese returned from the Walla Walla fair, Monday. S. P. Garrigues came up from Portland, Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Cornett were in from Butter creek, Saturday. Bob Carsner, the Spray stock- man, was in the city yesterday Mr. and Mr6. A. L. Ayers came in from Parker's Mill. Saturday. Everybody goes to the O. plieuru. The greatest show on top of earth for 10c Peter Baureufienil, of Cecil, was n incoming passenger Tuesday evening. J. P. Rhea was in the city Sat urday. Mr. Rhea is now a resi dent of Walla Walla. L E. Ward, editor of the lone reclaimer, was in Heppner Satur day, to hfar Senator Fulton. Postmaster Smead returned Tuesday evening from Ukiab, Oal., where he has been visiting his mother. Judge H. J. Bean returned to Pendleton, j'esterday morning, af ter attending to court business in this city. There is a shortage of $5000 in 1ho Portland postofficp. The raat 1er is being investigated by the Government. W. O. Minor, who has been mak ing the circuit of the fairs with his prize herd of Shorthorns, returned Tuesday evening. Saturday afternoon at' the Orplieum for children. County CommTsHioner W. T. Camp hell, ( f Lexiogton, was in the city yes terday. For children under 12 years of age, 5 cent, at the Orpheura, Saturday after noon, at 2:30. Miss MH bI Cameron and brother, Neil, cams up from Portland yesterday to be with their mother who now resides in Heppner. The meeting for women only which was postponed last Sunday will be held at the Christian church next Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. I Three shows Saturday evening at the Orpheum. First, 7 ; second, 7 :40 ; third, 8:15 Come out and laugh and see some of the world's greatest plays reproduced. It isn't a new baby in W. P. Smith's home that makes him so good natured his wife is using Folger'a Golden Gate Coffee her grocer grinds it. Henry Neal of Lone -Hock passed through town today with three carloads of cattle, mostly dry cows, for the Port land market. He also purchased 3400 head of iamhs at two dollars a head from Bob Wright, V. Mascall aid others, that will be run this winter on the Lone Rock range Fossil Journal. The Sunday school of the Christian church is breaking all former records on attendance. Last Sunday 15G were present. An effort is beinir made to have 200 present next Sunday. The Superintendent and teachers urge all who are not attending SunJay school at some ether church to be present next Sunday and enroll as regular members. Tbe revival couducted by Evangelitt Handsakerat the Chri.-tian chu ch con tinues with growing inte'est. There will be meetings each evening but Sat urday this week and ntxt. It is not known at this time just how long the services w.ll continue. The Evangelist announces his intention of staying as long as the interest demands. There have been several additionsv to the church and many more seem to be deep ly interested in the message that is pre sented from bight to night. Democratic Speaking. Hod. O. P. Coshow, of Portland, will address the citizens of Morrow county at Roberts hall, Thursday evening, Oc tober 29. Mr. Coshow is an ex-state senator and an able speaker, Every body invited to attend. New Song Hooks. The South Methodift church has re ceived the new hymn books ordered a few days ago. They have new books for the congregation, also new books for the Sunday school, and new anthem bo )ks for the choir. The books will be in use next Sunday. Preaching at 11 a. m. Subject: ' Prevailing Prayer." Evening topic: "Temp'ation." The evening hour for service will be at 7 o'clock during the winter", i stead of 7:30. Sunday school at 10 a. m. All are welcome without regard to "race, color, or pievious con dition of servitude." There is none better than the Orpb eum. The show houses of Portland a tbe same price are none better. Slooum Drug Co. Emil Scharff came in from Mon timeut, Thursday evening. Mr. Scharff brought in 2C0 head of hogs which were purchased by C. A. Minor. A Clatskanie man went hunting nnd lost his dog. Sunday he went out to look for it, taking along a ehotguu and a revolver, and found the dog guarding a treed cougar, which with several shots was killed. It measured 9 feet 8 inches in length and stood feet high. Congrefsman Ellis found himself an important dignitary when he went to Coos B-y on the Break water, for in his honor the steamer was decorated in gay colors, and on her Brrival nt Marsh field and North Bend Bi'gtial guns were fired. The ship's code was used for dec orating the craft. Ellis was out on a Fppech-making tour. Portland Telegram. W. O. Minor, who has just fin ished the Northwestern fair circuit, comes back to Lfeppuer again load ed down with sweepstakes, grand champion, champion and first prize wiuuings galore. Not content with his maguuiceut herd that he started out with, he has added the cream of the winners from other herd. His success is the lesult of years of uu tiring effort and good judg ment in the work that he loves. Mr. Minor's cattle were highly complimented by tbe Eastern judges, who strongly insisted that he should show his herd at Denver and Chicago.
