Manifestly there seems to be a re cession, hs Bryan wave having reached its maximum, and is now distinctly sinking at the crest. At the outset Taft was both Lelped aud handicapped by the President. Notwithstanding the many things that he had himself done and the reputation he had rmde in the coloninl possessions, likewise in the President's policies for which he spoke but which an other man stood for in the public eye. This placed him at a great disad vantage at the beginning of the eartpnigo. But siuce it has been tremendously stimulated by Air. Kooseveit's interjection into it and ly M r. Tnfi's great swing around the tirc'e in his speechmaking tour. Now that the man himself is being discovered in his true proportion- i-d the public gets a glimpse of " Lis fine judic'al character he has ncc. grown enorniou,ly in public esti- , Ntk"U he" b k'T t,,.,t l' U'e nn" 1 ation detained, under and by virtue of tli laws of th"? He reportsthat the school is mak ing excellent progress under the management of Prof. L. B. Kicker, principal, and Miss Carrie Morga'r eidge, assistant. While it would be better for the school if another teacher were employed aud the third room occupied, the work is not being slighted. The pupils show a spirit of self-reliance, and are helping themselvee. The teach ers are giving much individual as sistance outside of the regular school periods. The school house is a very neat, substantial, up-to-date, three room building. It is well furnished with the best of school f arniture. The windows are fitted with patent slat shades, which make it possible to properly regulate the light aud ventilation. The walls are painted a tint which avoids cross lights and strong reflections. The blackboards are excellent, and in the lower grades they are placed within easy reach of the little folks. The halls are large and conveniently ar ranged. Wash basins, towels, mir rors, and combs are provided in liberal quantities, which enable the pupils to remove the dust with which they sometimes come in con tact on the way to school. How ever the fine windbreaks which are growing about every home and around every acreage tract will, in a short time diminish greatly the discomforts arising from the dust. The grounds about the school house are planted with trees, and within a few years, they will make a delightful park. The outbuild ings are neat, substantial, and kept in excellent condition. The school sentiment which pre vails in the town is good. The people are determined to have the best within their power to reach. One familiar with fchool work would not need to look f urther than their library to be convinced of that fict. The outlook for a suc cessful year's work is very bright. !
