A Dayton man has some apples that m e nearly as sound as when picked. For the past two weeks, says the i"av ton Optimist, we have been anticipating a diet of big, juicy strawberries, but us . yet they have not materialized. The strawberries in this vicinity ore jnst besiinninno come into bearing a d be placed on the market, sys the Dal las Observer. It is claimed that the crop will be heavier this year and t tie berries of better quality than for 6eveia' seasons past. A man who lately visited Cra'er Lake Vark eavs tnat the snow is still very deeu there, and that in en ering the house at the station he had to dip; through nire feet of sndw. Six miles east of the sta tion the snow was from two to four feet deep, and at Bridge creek there was five feet. Of orchards on Griffin creek the Med ford Mail says: The trees ot every va riety of fruit are heavily loaded, but ev erybody sits up and pays attention when the Cornice pears are shown, A branch from one of the trees not more than 15 inches long had Hi? healthv pears grow ing thereon. Lakeyiew Hera!d: A few years from now some of us will be savm, "Onlv a short time ano this piece of ground and that piece of ground, where those large buildings are, and that fine farm if, were covered with sagebrush, find I could have bought it at $10 per , acre." It will be the same old storv, it is part cf the history of every country. There has not been a betteretrawberry season for many years. Tbe berries are of good size and of extra fine flavor. The frostdid absolu ely no damage to the fruit tbis year, and the yield will be extra large, considering the acreage, says the Hood Riyer News-Letter. In dians from the se'veral reservations have arrived in large numbers to harvest the crop, and it is believed that tnere will be plenty of pickers and packers. A wooden pipe factory has been estab lished in the Barrettdistrict in tbe Hood River valley. The plant is capable of running two sets of boring machines si multaneously and of turning out the fol lowing amounts daily when tun to its full capacity. 2,400 Keto12 inch; 3,000 feet of 10 inch, 3,400 feet of 7 inch ; 3600 feet of 6 inch and 4inch pipe. Thecores of the. larger pipes are bored again; wound and used for high pressure pur poses. It is tbe plan to leave a three inch shell to the pipe. However, much of the pipe bored has a 4 to 6 inch rim. Notice. Notice is hereby given that I will not be responsible for any debts contracted by my wife, she having left my bed and board. M28-T1S.
