A wooden pipe factory has been estab
lished in the Barrettdistrict in tbe Hood
River valley. The plant is capable of
running two sets of boring machines si
multaneously and of turning out the fol
lowing amounts daily when tun to its
full capacity. 2,400 Keto12 inch; 3,000
feet of 10 inch, 3,400 feet of 7 inch ; 3600
feet of 6 inch and 4inch pipe. Thecores
of the. larger pipes are bored again;
wound and used for high pressure pur
poses. It is tbe plan to leave a three
inch shell to the pipe. However, much
of the pipe bored has a 4 to 6 inch rim.

One of the lamest cattle sales made
in this section in several years was
closed at Ontario Monday when 3000
head of cattle changed owners, were
loaded on the cars and started for home
ranches of the purchasers, sayH the lea
ker City Democrat. Parsons and Han
ley, of Harney valley, were the sellers
and J. M. Holt, of Miles Cify, Mont.
and E. G, Gould of Kearney, Nebr.,
were the put chasers. Holt bought 700
head of yearling steers, paying ifl7 per
head.
Gould took 400 head of 3-year-olds
which he cot for $25 per head ; 500 at
$32 per head j 2000 head of 2-year-old
heifers at $13 per head.
