V Local Notes. Joe Boyer came over from Con .don the first of the week. Lather Haston and wife were in from Eight Mile Tuesday. Ohas. H. Hams came down from Hardman the first of the week. W. E. Bozarth, of Wasco, was registered at the Palace, Monday. W. F. Cowdrey, of Hardman, was registered at the Star, Monday. Theo. Anderson was a business visitor in the city the first of the week. t f F. F. Klitz was up from lone, Friday. He reports crop prospects good in his ueighborhood. E. R. Huston and wife, of Eight Mile, were business visitors in Heppner the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Clark. Hamilton, were registered at the Palace, Mopday. J. W. Beckett came up from Portland Monday and will spend a few days on his farm in the Eight Mile conn try. Johan Troedson and daughter came in from Ella Monday. Mr. Troedson was in to straighten up liis taxes with Morrow county. Ralph Thompson came in on Friday's train from Coivallis to -visit bis mother, who is quite sick There has been a slight improve rxent in her condition during the past week. Jake Young, candidate fornomi nation for Bheriff, came in from Lis Eiebt Mile ranch the first of the week and started on a cam paign tour of the county, Tuesday morning. Dalzell, of Eight Mile, was transacting business in Heppner, Monday. J. A. Hopper and Geo. Warren oame in from Eight Mile the fore part of the week. . Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blackman ot Portland, are visiting relatives and friends in the city. O. S. Hodsdon, one of Morrow county's progressive farmers, was in from his ranch, north of Lexing ton, Tuesday. Dr. and Mrs. Ray Norris, of Oregon City, were in the city this week. The doctor will locate at Monument. Albert and August Lovgren, two substantial farmers of the Goose- berry country, were business visi tors in Heppner Monday. Ed. Moore, the lone furniture man, is in the city, at the bedside of his wife who underwent a se vere operation at the hospital yes terday. Revival meetings are ' now in progress at the Baptist cnurcn, under the direction of Rev. T. J. Anthony. Considerable interest is being taken. Ed McDaid, one of the progress ive ranchers or the btrawberry country, was in the city the first of the week looking after the paying of his taxes. ! A special train of three coaches left Heppner Sunday morning at ten o'clock bearing in the neighbor. hood of two hundred people for lone to pay their last respects ta a man who will be missed as no other man in the county would be. The Knights of Pythias lodge of Hepp ner chartered the train for the oc casion. The deceased was a member of the I. O. O. F., the Knights of Py thias, the Elks, and the Masons. Three Odd Fellows lodges were represented besides the three other orders of which he was a member, and the floral offerings of these or ders were grand. The city of lone cave a macnificent floral piece, as well as numerous personal contri butions. The services were held in the yard of 8. I. 8tratton and were of ficiated over by Rev. Orr, of the M. E. church, South, of Heppner. There were nearly one thousand people in attendance and the con dition of the weather was such as to favor an open air service. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery on the hill above lone at about 2:30 under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which order he had been a member ever since he was twenty one years of age. Joseph A. Woolery was married to Miss Helen Violette Wilson, of Monument, Grant county, Oregon, on December 24, 1888. The reimlt of such uuion'has been four girls, Audrey, Edna, Velmaletta. and Joie. Mr. Woolery carried fifty two thousand dollars of life insurance n favor of his wife and family and in conjunction with his vast hold ings makes one of the largest es tates vet to be administered in Morrow couutv.
