Garrignes who have been spending tbe winter at Palo Alto, Calif , returned to this city Satur day evening. "Uncle" Jimmy Allen, the veteran road builder for Morrow county, was in from his ranch on Eight Mile, Saturday Uncle Jimmy report eyerything in a flourishing condition in bis neighbor hood. The sheep shearing season is almost here. Io the Columbia river countrv, in this county, a number of fleeces will be clipped this week. An early spring means early shearing. The bnsy sea eon for the sheepmen will soon be here. Anson Wright was in from bis big sheep ranch near Hardman, Saturday. Mr. Wright states that sheep are doing fine, but that the grass is not growing eo fast in nis section as it was about two weeks ago, owing to tbe cool nights. Joe Hayes, Jr., who was in from the Hayes ranch on Butler creek tbe latter part if last week, reports stock in fine abape. They are building two immense Bheep sheds on the main creek Io shelter their fl icks. Frank Brown, Levi Mor gan and Ott Neal are engaged in tbe construction work. Mahoney, the lone banker, was a business visitor in Ueppner, Sat urday. R. E. Alsto'.t, an Eipht Mile farmer, was doing business in Ileppner, the first of the week. J. C. Alstott an extensive Eight Mile farmer, was a Ileppner visitor tbe latter part of last week. Tom Mathews, one of the big stock men of Butter creek, was in town Sat urday and Sun-lay. T. T. Ilorgan, an extens v fa-mer of tbe Gooseberry section, was paying his taxes at tbe court house, Saturday. Forest Superintendent D. B. Shelter left Monday morning fjr Sumpter, where he gees on business conneoted with the forestry service. P. P. Peterson, formerly with Minor & Co. of this city, was in the city, Fri day. Mr. Peterson is now a commercial traveler for a Portland firm. Tbe East Oregonian says that tbs white robin recently killed in Ileppner, is an Albino robin. Guess that's right The name sounds good, anyhow. Tom GilfiUin, one of Morrow county's leading sheepmen, was in from bis Sand Hi. How ranch, Sunday. Levelett, an old pioneer and keeper of the Wall creek station, came P from tbe Willamette Valley, where he moved a little over a year ago, after isposiug of his property in this country. John Tasb, of Clark's Canyon, was in the city Monday. Mr. Tash states that fall sown grain is boking exceptionally good in his locality. The ground is too wet for spring seeding, but the farmers are glad to see it. Nearly every fruit tree in Lexington as been sprayed with a lime and sul- pher solutioo, tor San Jose scale, dur ing the past two weeks. The Willow creek valley can and does produce as ne fruit as any part of Oregon, when the orchards are given proper care. Wheat field. Preliminary work for the enlarging of tbe Hinklt ditch canal' between Echo nd Butter creek is well under way. Three thousand additional acres will be atered, and many men and teams will shortly de at work. Messrs. Teel. Binkle and others are actively engaged getting the work under way. E. O. A Mr. Tace, from the Indian Territory ecently purchased from Wm. Casey nd Felix Johnson, a car load of horses hich he 6bipped to the territory, to be used for light farm wotk. Wild range horses, 000 pounds weight, brought 840 per head. Mr. Pace intends to return n a short time and secure three or four car loads more. Ukiah correspondent to Pendleton Tribune. Attorney G. W. riidps is now en gaged in drawing up a chatter for tbe town of Ilardman, Morrow county. Hayes is running his sbeep near that place and will be ab sent about two weeks. Captain Charles McDonald and Lieu tenant George Leduc, of the Salvation Army, held an open air meeting, also services at the Baptist chnrcb, Monday evening.
