Robinsan, of lone, were Heppner visitors Thursday. Misses Ida and Mary McAtee who are attending school at St Mary's Academy at The Dalles, have returned for vacation. The case of K. C. Ashbaugh, charged with violating the Sunday law came to trial in justice Whities' court, Monday. The jury brought in a verdict of not guilty S. E. VanVactor was attorney for defendant. Property owners should look their places over for thistle. On a great number of the vacant lots in the city, thistle and foxtail have simply taken them. This matter should be at once attended to and these lots cleaned up. Thomas Ayers, Jr., came over from Pendleton, Tuesday evening. W. B. McCIister, of Lexington, was a Heppner visitor, Saturday. J. W. Beckett, of Eight Mile, was doing business in Heppner, Tuesday. Sam Willis this week sold his placd of 20 acres adjoining town to Andy J. Cook. Consideration $800. J. R. Simons and Mrs. J. T. Eirk and daughter Floss visited Bert Simons at Goldendale, Wash., this week. Miss Jessie Thomson entertain ed the Five Hundred Club Thurs day, evening. Mrs. C. E. Redfield won the prize, it being a sterling silver stocking darner. Hay harvest is here. Eye and alfalfa is being cut. fafa is very late owing to the rains. While Borne of the alfalfa was slightly injured by so much mois ture, the hay crop in general was greatly benefited by the rains. The report of a rich gold strike in quartz, in the Ulack Uutte country eoutn or Heppner, was the cause of considerable comment this week. About a dozen mining ocations were filed with the county clerk. It is said that the prospect is located ou deeded land belonging to J. C. Kirk, of Heppner. Phil ' Metschan, Jr.. returned from Portland, Monday. i Wm.' Matlock has commenced work on his new residence. H. E. Warren, of Spray, was reg istered at the Palace, Monday. V. fl. Heatn, countv surveyor elect, was in from Hardman, Monday. John Roberts who has been at Waitsburg, Wash., for some time, is visiting relatives in this city. W. H. Herren was down from his mountain home this week. He says that grass is very fine in the mountains. DIAKUIED. JONES-WARREN At the resi dence of the officiating minis ter in this city, June 18, 1906, Mr. Richard Jones aud Miss India Warren both of Jlorrow county, were united in marriage by Rev. J. V. Crawford. Heppner people will remember the Fischer and VanCleve Theat rical company that played Hepp ner some time ago. Both of the proprietors who are known here are dead, iscner died in Cali fornia some time ago and Bert VanCleve died at North Yakima, Wash., Ia;t wek. Mr. Fischer was a member of the Heppner lodge of Elka. Will Exhibit In Heppner Next Tuesday Afternoon And Night. The Great Burch and Reiss Circus, Educational Museum, Big Double Men agerie, and Aerian Enclave will exhibit in Heppner next Tuesday afternoon and night, under enormous waterproof tents which will be located in the central part of the city. This show is new to the west, this being the first western tour, but it enjoys a large patronage and the confidence of the public of the middle and New England States. The aggre gation numbers upwards of 330 perform ing camels, llamas, pumas, zebus, lions, tigers, bosindiciM, kangaroos, dromedaries, tapirs and other rare and costly animals, besides the usual com pliment of circus acts such aa acrobats, clowns, gymnasts, necromancers, equil iberists, prestidigetaeurs, jugglers, wire and rope dancers, Japaneese and other big acts, and is the largest and best show to visit this Beotion of the country no better show of the kind can be seen anywhere. It requires a special train of double length cars to transport the show and two bands of music and troupe of Turkish musicians will also be heard. This show recently plaved Portland for three days and the press of the city were unanimous in proclaiming it to be the most novel and the best conducted circus that has ever visited that city. The free street parade which will be given on the morning of the exhibition is without doubt, the most attractive street demonstration ever presented with a tent show. Jackson,, of Jacksonville, and Torn Richardson ani A. H. Devers of Portland,, aa- commis sioners to arrange for the proper repre sentation of Oregon at the Jamestown Exposition in 1937; Tbe appointment were made in response to a request from the Portland Commercial Club and the Portland Board of Trade. Tbe commis sioners are expected to make a report for the information of tbe Legislature. The Lewis and Clark Fair Commis sion has on hand a balance of about $80,000 in cash and good property that will be turned) back to tbe state. Presi dent Jefferson Myers of tbe Lewis and Clark Commission says that about $35.,- 000 would make a very creditable- ex hibit for the State of Cregon at the Jamestown Exposition. Tbe Legisla ture may be asked to direct Hie see of a part of the balance from, the Lewis and Clark. Fair to make an exhibit at James town. The Oregon Jamestown Exposition commission met and organized, electing Jefferson Myers president. Mr. Blackman returned from Port land Monday.
