day night, for Bend, Crook county,
to inspect an irrigation project in
the Bend basin. The irrigation
scheme is inaugrated under the
Carey act and will reclaim a large
area of every valuable land.

Property owners should look
their places over for thistle. On a
great number of the vacant lots in
the city, thistle and foxtail have
simply taken them. This matter
should be at once attended to and
these lots cleaned up. Now is the
proper time to kill both the thistle
and foxtail, as the weather is be

just bursting forth their bloom.

The report of a rich gold strike
in quartz, in the Ulack Uutte
country eoutn or Heppner, was
the cause of considerable comment
this week. About a dozen mining
ocations were filed with the
county clerk. It is said that the
prospect is located ou deeded land
belonging to J. C. Kirk, of Heppner.

rical company that played Hepp
ner some time ago. Both of the
proprietors who are known here
are dead, iscner died in Cali
fornia some time ago and Bert
VanCleve died at North Yakima,
Wash., Ia;t wek. Mr. Fischer
was a member of the Heppner
lodge of Elka.

JAMESTOWN EXPOSITION..
Will Exhibit In Heppner Next
Tuesday Afternoon And
Night.
The Great Burch and Reiss Circus,
Educational Museum, Big Double Men
agerie, and Aerian Enclave will exhibit
in Heppner next Tuesday afternoon and
night, under enormous waterproof tents
which will be located in the central part
of the city. This show is new to the
west, this being the first western tour,
but it enjoys a large patronage and the
confidence of the public of the middle
and New England States. The aggre
gation numbers upwards of 330 perform
ing camels, llamas, pumas, zebus,
lions, tigers, bosindiciM, kangaroos,
dromedaries, tapirs and other rare and
costly animals, besides the usual com
pliment of circus acts such aa acrobats,
clowns, gymnasts, necromancers, equil
iberists, prestidigetaeurs, jugglers, wire
and rope dancers, Japaneese and other
big acts, and is the largest and best
show to visit this Beotion of the country
no better show of the kind can be
seen anywhere. It requires a special
train of double length cars to transport
the show and two bands of music and
troupe of Turkish musicians will also
be heard. This show recently plaved
Portland for three days and the press of
the city were unanimous in proclaiming
it to be the most novel and the best
conducted circus that has ever visited
that city. The free street parade which
will be given on the morning of the
exhibition is without doubt, the most
attractive street demonstration ever
presented with a tent show.

sioners to arrange for the proper repre
sentation of Oregon at the Jamestown
Exposition in 1937; Tbe appointment
were made in response to a request from
the Portland Commercial Club and the
Portland Board of Trade. Tbe commis
sioners are expected to make a report
for the information of tbe Legislature.
The Lewis and Clark Fair Commis
sion has on hand a balance of about
$80,000 in cash and good property that
will be turned) back to tbe state. Presi
dent Jefferson Myers of tbe Lewis and
Clark Commission says that about $35.,-
000 would make a very creditable- ex
hibit for the State of Cregon at the
Jamestown Exposition. Tbe Legisla
ture may be asked to direct Hie see of a
part of the balance from, the Lewis and
Clark. Fair to make an exhibit at James
town.
