Dr. J. W. Aahford was called to Day ville Monday to attend the injuries of Kuflin Kennedy, a young man who bas boen herding sheep for Dave Irvine who had a flesh wound in the hip, and Tom Lin, a Chinaman, one of K. F MacKae'a herders, who was suffering from a fracture of his left elbow. The Blue MounUin Kagle has been given the following account of the shootir g scrape, which is said to be the state ment made by young Kennedy, as well as the l lunsiaan. .Monday morning Kuffln Kennedy met the Chinaman and unloaded his revolver at him, one hall fracturing bis left arm. Kennedy then started to run when the Chinaman be gan shooting at him, one slct p"ne trating the fleshy portion of Ins hip. Kennedy's wound is reported as only siight, while the wonnd received by the Chinaman is more serious and will leave the celestial with a crippled l bow joint. Whether the two herdtrs had had trouble before is not learned, nor was there any excuse assigned for the assault on the Chinaman. At the hour of going ro press, no arrest bad been made. Blue Mountain Faglo. The agitation of the question of build log a now court bouse for Morrow coun ty is now jetting into such a shape that some action in the matter will be taken in a short time. At a mass meeting which was called today by the citizens and taxpayers, at the opera bouse, there was a good rep resentation of the heaviest taxpayers of the county. The meeting was called to order at 10 o'clock. Ueo. Conser was elected chair man and R F. Hynd secretary. The main object of tbo meeting was to get tbo matter before the county court which is now in session, and to show the sentiment of the people in relation to the matter. A committee consisting of At'orney O. W. Phelps, Msyor Frank Gilliam and H. P Garrignes was sppointed to wait on the couuty court and invite the members of that body to come before the meeting to listen to the views of the taxpayers present on the question. County J-jdre A. tt. liartholotne and Commissioners J. L. Howard and F.d. C. Aahbsugh, at the request of the mmittee were present. After some discussion of the matter in which several prominent taxpayer? si pressed themselves as being in favor of the county erecting a new court house suitable for the demands of the county Judge A G Bartho'otnew was called upon. la a abort address Judge Bartholo mew stated that the court was there not for nor against the proposition of build ing a new court house, but to listen and get an expression of the taxpayers, and as the chosen representatives of the people it was the duty of the court to act in accordance with the wishes of the people of Morrow county. He stated that as published in the newspapers at his request some time ago, the present vault for the keeping of county records was wholly inade quate to the requirements of the coun ty, and that they e'e crowded, and furthermore in case of a destructive fire be believed that with the present vault everything would be destroyed. Commissioner J. L. Howard slated that he had nothing to sav, but was there to hear an expression of views. Commissioner Kd. C. Ashbaugh said that be was also there to get the senti ment of tbe taxpayers. The following resolution was intro duced and unanimously adopted : Resolved, That it is the unanimous ill of this meeting that the county court and commissioners of Morrow county, be, and tbey are hereby re spectfully requested to immediately proceed to build, erect and construct a newennrt house large enough to meet the demands and the requirements and the buainess of the county. HAY FEVER Married At the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Noble, this city, Wednesday evening, January 8, I90"J, Mr. V. C. McCartor of Missonla, Mon tana, and and Miss Jennie Noble of Heppner. In the presence of ii0 or more invited guests, this was a very pretty wedding. At H o'clock the wedding march's soft strains were beard floating through the home announcing the appointed hour. Then apeared the best msn and brides maid closely followed by the bride and groom. After reaching the altar with all the preliminaries arranged, Kv. lieightol performed the marriage cere mony, alter winch congratulations were in order as well as the surveying of the many beautiful presents. The bride was beautifully arrayed in white while the groom aas attired in regulation black. Mr. Jake Wells makes a splendid best man while Miss Lilly Andrews does honor as a bridesmaid. A most elegant wedding repast was served. Mr. and Mrs. McCartor will return home by way of Moscow, Idaho, where they will stop for a few days visiting. Mr. McCarter is proprietor of a large general stere at Missoula, Montana, and is a prominent and prosperous mer chant of that city. He has a rosy home all ready. They certainly have bright prospects. Geer, Secretary of Slate F. I. Dunbar and State Treasurer ('lias. S. Moore, constituting the board of state tax levy, met at Salem January 3d, and as a result of their work the tax levy was made, the first under the new law. The total amount levied for state purposes is $896,000, and for the Agri cultural college at CorvalliH, $li."i,0P J, a total of $920,000 for the year 1!0L This levy wag made under tbe statute passed at the last session of the legislature, and is based on the average valuation of the property in each county for the i last five years. Below ia given the statement of the board of levy and the table of apportionment: Tbe folllowing table shows First. The proportion of the state taxea to be paid by tbe several counties of tbe state, as set out in tbe table set forth in section 5 of an act of the legis lative assembly of tbe state of Oregon entitled "An aot to prescribe the method in which tbe state taxes shall be apportioned between the several counties of the state, and to repeal sec tion 2788 of Hill's annotated laws of Oregon, and to amend sections 2789, 2790, 2791 and 2792 of Hill's annotated laws of Oregon.as heretofore amended," approved February 27, 1801. Second. The total amount of revenue to be raised for the fiscal year ending December 31, 1902, for state purposes, not provided for by a special tax duly authorized by law and apportioned to each county of tbe state of Oregon, to b levied and collected and paid into the state treasury by each of said coun ties ot the sum of $895,000, as set out in th before mentioned table, tbe said sum of $895,000, being tbe total revenue to be raised by taxation for state pur poses for the fiscal year ending Decem ber 31, 1902. Third. Tbe amount to be raised for tbe annual support aBd benefit of the State Agricultural College, which shall be levied and collected in tbe same manner as other taxes for state pur pose! ars levied and collected, provided by section 2 of an act of the legislative assembly, approved February 6, 1901, and apportioned to each county of the state of Oregon, to be levied and col lected and paid into the state treasury by each of said counties in the manner provided by law, being the resulting per cent apportioned to each of said counties of the sum of $-',CX, as set out in tbe before mentioned table, the said sum of $25,030 beiDg the earn to compute, in accordance with the pro- isions of the aforesaid act, for the sup- Iort and benest of the Htate Agricul tural college.
