N E o f the safest w ay s to use coal oil for kin dlin g fires is to fill tin cans about tw o-th irds full with fine co al o r w o o d t i k e s then stir in en ou gh o f the oil to saturate the ashes and y o u will alw ay s have a g o o d fire starter and on e or two spoonsful is enough to start one fire. F r y it o u t and strain, then to one- half pou nd reliable p ota sh and a little water add three pounds of melted fat and stir for ten minutes, and then stir in one tablespoon ful of b o r a x d is so lv ed in a little hot w at e r and turn into pans to cool.
