Williams and others, negotiations have been under way with the Southern Pa cific company for the sending of representative here for the purpose of presenting an adver tising proposition in connection with their Sunset magazine and the getting of some booklets de scriptive of our resources to be used by our basket ball team while on their trip west and east. A couple of dates were previous ly made, but each time the rep resentative failed to arrive. Last Monday night he showed up in the person of Mr. Wells, and Tuesday morning an impromp tu meeting of business men was called at the court house to hear and consider his propositions. Hon. U. S. Loughary was chosen to preside over the meeting, and Mr. Wells made his talk, His first proposition, briefly stated, which involved an outlay in cash, covering a period of one year, of $2,240, consisted of 20,000 copies of a GO page booklet, front page in three colors, map of Oregon with Dallas the hub, a large number of half tones, etc., 20,- 000 copies of conductors’ booklet of 30 pages, a folder in unlimited quantity for use in envelopes, a page in Sunset and in the Ore gonian, one year in the former and one time in the lattes: the service of all the Harriman agencies in the United States and Europe for distribution pur poses, and a number of other minor details. The second prop osition was a book of 30 pages, 4x6, with the other features about the same, only the Oregon ad. eliminated and a half instead of a full page in Sunset. The matter was fully discussed by those present, and on motion Messers Loughary, Fiske and Fenton, were made a committee to interview the rest of the busi ness men and get a consensus of opinion in regard to accepting of the second proposition. That was considered the most advisa ble at this time, as Mr. Wells said the booklets could be got ten out and ready for distribu tion in two weeks, thus utilizing the basket ball team for circula tion of the literature, as was or iginally desired and proposed. A meeting was called for the same night to hear the report of the committee. Monday evening the court room was well filled to see what was to be done in the matter and much interest manifested. It was found that the feeling was strongly in favor of accept ing the proposition, and that Dal las had been resting long enough; that now was the proper time to at once and forever put our town on the map and beyond any pos sible danger of erasure. It was decided to at once organize a league for the sole purpose of boosting things along, and this was done by the election of the following officials and the nam ing of the organization the Dal las Development League: Presi dent, U. S. Loughary; secretary, H. G. Campbell: treasurer, W. G. Vassall; executive committee, Ralph Adams, V. P. Fiske, Con rad Stafrin; finance committee, R. E. Williams, U. S. Grant, H. C. Eakin. They then adjourned to meet at the call of the presi dent, when the finance commit tee will be ready to report. The booklets will be ready by Decem ber 22nd, the executive commit tee and a man from Portland be ing now preparing the material. When they arrive $250 is due, and then $60 a month thereafter. City Council Ends its Regular Ses sion at Early Hour. Last Monday evening found all our city officials present to at tend to their duties as represen tatives of people of Dallas, with the exception of the city attor ney. So expediently was the business handled that they were able to adjourn by 9:30, nearly an unheard of early hour lately. The committee on fire and wat er, to whom was referred the matter of buying additional land for the building of another res ervoir, reported that on acre on the north could be secured for $100. No action was taken, hut on motion of Ellis the same com mittee were requested to report further at a future meeting. Cosper gave notice that he was not ready to report regarding the tax levy, but that he would call a meeting of the finance commit tee at some date soon to thor oughly go into the question. A remonstrance was read and filed in the matter of the widen ing and naning of the Cooper Hollow road. The sewer contractors asked for 60 days extension of time on their contract and the same was granted. A new sidewalk ordinance was passed. On motion of Uglow an ordi nance was ordered drafted pro viding for the building of cement curbs, exclusively, hereafter. Mr. Uglow also secured the same procedure in the matter of construction of sidewalks. Claims allow«?«!, F .1 Morrison, hauling................. $ John Frey, U bor............................
