r.int. - tAXl L I SUMMERVILLE. Hurrah for the subsidy! Hurrah for Hunt, Jiinciiart, Crawford In fact for all of tho friends to tlio subsidy. Did you sec Hunt coming over tho mountains? Yue, my friends, you and T both will si'O him. and don't doubt, it for a moment. Every fanner and business man looks happy finen the mibeidy lias been raised, in fact wo wo Hits enemy tryinir to play friendship. J)iil you notice it? I di.I. JmprovemontH sprinyinil up in ev ery direction. The answer to inquiry why, is: "Well, the Hubuidy is raised and Hunt will build the railroad, then all will bo happy and tho country pros perous" Now is when everybody and his friends j;o huckleberrying. Uorries arc reported plentiful in the mountains. Farmers arc haying in all directions Hay is very good and all feel that they will realize a good price this fall and winter. Tho prospects are still very good for heavy crops of grain in this locality and Indian valley, but rain is wanted very badly. 0. II. Taylor has tho longest auger in tin; county. He will foon bo able to go down into mother earth -100 feet, his machinery having arrrived and will 1)0 at work soon. Hon. J. L. lloo is again homo with his family. He looks as if tho people among whom lie had aiociatcd had treated him well. A livery man who wotdd keep teams and vehicles about tho promises, to let to people, endangering their lives, should bo reduced to tho rear ranks on half rations, and yiich will be tho caso unless a certain livery business changes its programme. The first copy of tho Suinmervillo Anuotator came- to tho front last Fri day, and all were well pleased to see tho new born babe. It looks young, but will grow, as there are men at tho post of duty. (Jivo the boys time, thoy will get there. Tho Yates Hros. have burned a small kiln of brick, and thoy look like very line building material. In the near future I hoy will try another class of clay near by. Tho health of this locality is very good. If it continues the doctors will starve out, but I presume tho loss would bo light. Let the good health continue. John McDonald is building a line residence on his home raneh. When finished it will bo one of tho finest hoiiKCS in tho valloy. John knows what lie wants and knows it well. S. E. Johnson, tho best workman in the valley, is tho architect. Ho turns out nothing but lirst-class work. Oil yes, had you noticed how some people who never said a good word for tho Hunt subsidy, and never sub scribed a cent until tho last moment, now come up and in their goulish way undertako to tell you what thoy have done to raito the desired amount. Clod bless their two-faued souls, they were only waiting for an opportunity to say: "1 told you to. I knew all tho time you could not rnito (lie subsidy, and for this reason I kept my tongue Htill." That was what they wanted to say, but alas, they did for once in their life get fooled. Too many good muii weio in favor of tho work and would not let it go back, and when tho amount is raised in spite of the cold wati r thrown by these pigmies, thoy then come up and undertako to dupe tho people by saying: "I did this and 1 did that," but no ono over hoard of those groat things that were done, and tho people will not forget it. The idea of coming up at the last hour and put ting in a pitiful subscription so that it might bo said that they did stand in doesn't go, gentlemen. Wo knowf tho true inwardness of your feelings, and if you could have accomplished a 'defeat by standing out you would have boon out yet, hut that was more than you could tlo, and you found that somo thiugB could bo done even with out your assistance. You insulted those who attempted to say a word in favor of tho subsidy. Now it is our tinio to Moat and you will not Hud us wanting. Most of tho good people have given all they were able, and should have tho respect of all, but fconio havo given just enough to say that they gave anil that is all, when X at the name lime they expect to come in and reap the benellts as though thoy had given what they should, but thoy will Unci that wo havo a black board in our minds and it will always appear Iresh when wo see ono of thoo follow asking for favors of tho road, or flu managers, when it is built. There nro a great many who deserve praio for what they havedono and tho people will not forget them in tho future. Moro anon, OUT-MOUTH JOHN. EAGLE VALLEY. Tim Coining rirn!c.--I!oe Culture -Crop Outlook Terminal Mm II on. Tho grand picnic on Aug let will take place in Swisher's grove. Great preparations are being made for the cvcnLand much pleasure is anticipa ted. The Eagle valley band will fur nish music, and a big dance and sup per will be given at night. Wo cor dially invito everybody to attend. Farmers are cutting oatt and wheat 1 and will food commence on the sec ond crop of alfalfa. Everything looks line here. There is plenty of water for all to irrigate, and wo don't need rain in tho valley, but would like to have some on tho foothills. Our bee men are having good luck with their bees. I think there is at least three hundred bee hives in the valley, which will no doubt be increased to four hundred before cold weather sets in. Wo havo plenty of honey which sells at V2 cents per pound. We have the best place in tho state for a creamery. Plenty of alfalfa and hay, and cows enough to furnish bar rels of milk daily. Where is the man to start such an enterprise? There is any amount of fat cattlo, horses and sheep for salo here. Where are the buyers? We thank the writer from Cornuco pia for the nice description bo gavo of Eagle valley. I know not his name, but would say that ho is cordially invited to attend our picnic on tho first of August. W. W. Xirby still wants to sell 200 tons of hay, and has a splendid fall and winter pasture. Will eell part or all of that amount. Mr. Jos. Holies left yesterday for Arkansas. Mrs. A. C. Cox left yesterday for tho Willamette valley. She goes to visit her parents. Wo cordially invite tho editors of TiiiOitKUOX Hooiit to attend our pic nic on August 1st, in Kagle valley. We also extend a special invitation to our county olileials. Kagle is tho warmest valloy to win ter stock in, in Kastcrn Oregon. Mr. Ayers from llurnt river, fed here last winter, and out of a largo band of sheep did not lose a single one. Chandler Ihos. fed fiOO cattle and lost but ono calf. Who can beat that? K.
