To that end contributions nro solicited, but they must poetH undoubted literary merit to outrun ptaco nnu recogm tion here. Ki. Written for the Boout.I NEW YEAU'S ClIUIKS. Once more across the leafless land Wc hear the peal of New Year's chimes; The young and old stand hand In hand, And dream the past in present timoi. There is a story in the belli That conies in whispers through the air; Of love to some their imi'ic tells, They fcigh to others of despair. A year spo! yon can't forget The darkness of lat New Yenr'3 night, A little robin, cold and wet. Flew d ized and hungry to tho light. Our holly wreathes unwlthercd Ftill, The glad New Year had scarce! v come, We heard a shout across the hill, Our long-lost brother had come home. "Good will and peace!'' in lrnfy scroll We JihW above the chance 1 dim"; We lit aril the mighty organ roll Kb nitric for the Obrhtm.ts hymn. The sermon was of love and all Uprose, just blent a Chiitian fold; Still many kisses nivcr fall, For death has made their lips go cold. King on, ye Now Year's bel's of peace; Biug on of love that never dies: The love that Lists through lifo must ccaso, ine nie oi cleanness sympathies; King out ths only true belief Across the meadows and the plain, The woods once moro will smile in leaf, The summer lloweis will came again. This is the music of the chimes That crushes hate and kills despair; The gospel of the good old times, Fining with love t lie vtry air; Though hope lie buried, it will r'sa, Thoudi sorrow triumphs, 'twill depart; Love will re'ight grief-wasted eves And fill with iov the empty heart. They differ in different individuals -to some extent. A Billions man h seldom a breakfast cater. Too frequently, alas, he hat an excellent ap petite for liquids hut none for solids of a morning. His tongue will hardly bear in spection nt any time; if it id not white and furred, it is rough, at uU events. The digestive system is wholly out of or dcr and Diarrhea or Constipation may be a symptom or the two may alternate. There ore often Hemorrhoids or even loss of blood. There may be glddluejs und tften hcaducbe and acidity or flatulence and tenderness In the pit of thu stomach. A young gentleman of this writes to us nu follows: city "Wo are willing to wager our full interest in Paradiso that this town possesses more real, genuine creative genius than any other town of equal size, this side of the liockics. Recent ly one of our iniluentivl citizens con ceived the profound idea of inventing an instrument for tho special use of bachelors in frigid weather. Wo were furnished with a plan of construction by the gentleman, and we now submit it to tho run Airs of The Scour: Build a fire in a heating stove im mediately before going to church, if on Sunday night, procure u hledge-ham-mer of about eight pound capacity, minus the handle, then, although it is for bachelors, a piece of old calico drees must be obtained or tho required re sult will not follow ; place tho Wedge, incased in the fragment of feminine garb, under Ihefetovo and let it remain there until after church, but be careful and keep full contiol of your mental powers, and to do this let the young men accompany all the stray girls home, who maybe at chinch; upon arriving at your home, crawl into your "bunk" with the sledge-hammer and the full reward for your trouble will be the result. If Hub is not genius, wo arc doomed to wear out eternity in purgatory. Each one of tho instru ments will bo plainly labeled in stamped letters, "For bachelors only," so no mistake will bo made."
