While walking on the railroad track at Mabton station, about forty miles south of Yakima, one night last week, Charles Miller was instrntfy killed by being run over by a freight train. Hon. Daniel Manning, ex-secrelary of treasury, died at. his home in Alba ny, N. Y. Dec. 21th, at 1 :30 o'clock p. m. Flags at tho Capitol were ordered to bo placed at half-mast, by President Cleveland. Seattle, W. T. hud a $10,000 fire last Saturday. The lire started in a small cigar shop and spread rapidly, burning tlio Mechanics' mill; loss $20,000; no insurance. Several other buildings were burned. Spokane Falls had a $20,000 tire on December 20th, and as usual in hitch cases tho water works were out of re pair, a'nd the water had been turned oh", in order to repair them. The supreme court of Indiana has made the highly commendable ruling that railroad employees have the right to summarily eject from a train, any passenger who may use improper lan guage in the presence of ladies.
