Representative Herman, of Oregon, states thr.t "the Willamette valley will be invaded by a boom next year beside which all other booms will he as nothing." Any boom that may strike tho state, will no doubt reach, and Nourish 11101, in Eastern Oregon, as we have the wherewithal to keep that king of thing going. The Columbia & Palousc rail- j way, whice has been the chief bone of contention, will bo operated by the Northern Pacific and will be turned j ! over to tho company, j Thisadjustment of affairs is quite a surprise to many. The urineni racinc has ncni for many years fifty miles on each side of their Jinc, forty miles of which being the original grant, and the remaining fen miles being known as lieu lands. This ten mile limit has been restored to the uses of tho actual settler, the commissioner holding that the railroad company have no rights to them. The report has spread Mint ihe whole grant has been restored to settlement, but there is no truth in it. The lieu lands only have been restored. A great many people who have paid 2.60 an acre for land settled upon will get one-half of this amount back, and it will bo the menus of placing a larger amount of ready cash into the hands of land owners of the country hereabouts. The most valuable rail road lands are still held by the North ern Pacific, with slight chance of their safe.
