No Matter what enactment may be ir-ailo by the legislature in regard to the HS.scsMiicnt and taxation of prop erly , we very much doubt that any improvement will be made on the present sypUiiii whiolt Is just enough In itself, and is only evaded by perju ry on the part of those who prefer to swear falsely rather than pay a just tax. Until some way is devised tore form this clans, most any law will bo found deficient. The best change that could be made would he to abolish tliu ollicc of county assessor and make pro visions for an assessoi in each precinct. Uy this means the assessor would bo personally acquainted with the finan cial condition of nearly all those whom it would bu hU duty to assess, and could form a better idea whether they were tampering with the truth or not. If it was found that they were, it should be hi duty to commence a rigid criminal prosecution against them at once. Nothing but fuar will make sonic men give in a correct assessment, and this lever should bu brought to bear upon them. Notirn of Appllrntl in to J'urcliax Tim ber I, mul.
