An ciTort will be made at the ncxl legislature to divide the county and form a new county of tjie Wallowa country. Wo understand that a pe tition to the legislature, praying for a division, is being circulated to that section ad signed by a large majority of the citizens. Circuit court convenes next Mon day, It piotnisea to be a very inter esting term, and doubtless a great many horn different sections of the county will come in to hoar the trials. Judge Bird, of The Dalles will proba bly sit as Judge in one or two cases in which L-on is interested as attorney. There will bo a meeting next Tues day evening at the M. E. Church, for the purpose of making arrangements for a Christinas tree, appointing com mittees, etc. Let everyone attend ami endeavor to make the affair a success. Christmas would not seem like Christ inas to the little folks, without a tree. A few dava ago Mrs. II. Johnson, of Powder river, procured the arrest of her son Chas. Herring, on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, The case came up for hearing before Judge Gpodall, last Tuesday, when Herring waived examination and was placed under bonds of $500' to appear at the spring term of court. But very little interest was taken in the city election last Monday, there being but ouo tiokct and tho only competition being for Recorder, be tween Marion Davis and Jerry Thom- fon in winch Thomson came out uhead with a majority of seventeen.
