If it, cannot bo riven theiu, tho bo Ihtnir they can do i to renounce Ihcil ullcinaiieo to the United Statun, and become citizens of Mexico, or Mime oiiiitrv that can protect them, ll would be much ploasanter and afM So far as L'uttintr is concerned there nmv be some just grounds for his ui rest and imprisonment by the Mexican authorities, hut in too ease 01 i;n siiroz tlioro can bo nono. lie was i naturalized citizen of tho United States, taken from American oil (it tho telegrams report truly) under ex tradition papci-8. on a trumped up charge of theft. Unco over the fron tier ho was brutallv murdered. It the Mexican authorities use duo dilli ire nee in tho arrest and trial of his murderers, well and good. If not thev should bo hold to accountability The trial of Cutting is concluded and he was sentenced to one years impris onuicnl at hard labor in tho peniteu tiarv at Chihuahun, and a lino of S-iiOO imposed upon him, sooner was tho fact of his sen tenco known than both towns, on the .Mexican and American .side, were wild with excitement over tho mutter. Scoict meetings were hold, and com panies of minute men were organized. Merchants fear harm if soldiers arc not promptly on hand. They realize that congress only can declare war, hut the superior nunibor of Mexican soldiers in 1'aso del Norlo would play Jiavoc with the single company now at Port, Wiss, one mile trom hi raso. Arms and ammunition are not scarce, however, and citizens arc secretly organizing so as to act on tho defen sive. Their voice is unanimous for vindication of American honor and protection of our citizens. Mexicans, too. uro angrv at tho tenor of our press, and the people are fearful ol violence on account ol numerous mas meetings that are being held. A dis patch from llio (Jrando city, Texas, says a heavy force of Mexican revolu tionists crossed the river into Texas on Thursday night. A troop of the Kighlh Uniied States cavalry was ordered, yesterday, from Hinggold barracks ti pursue and disarm them. Altogether the situation of affairs is becoming rather serious and unless the matter is attended to promptly, and with no indecision by tho govern ment, doubtless Texas will take the matter in hand, herself, and we may look for razors in tho air. THE XEW no J II D. As will be soon by reference to the county court proceedings published on our local jiage, the new hoard seems to bo Inclined to do things in a business like manner. Tho sheriff has been instructed to collect all delinquent taxes without delay. As delinquent taxes have been accumulating for many vcars iast, it is high lime they were settled up, or wiped out in some man lier, The hoard does not luiilnte to niako liberal appropriations lor road and bridges when the same is deemed necessary, and this is right. There is always a" lot of grumbling moss backs who sot up a howl every time an ap propriation is iniide, and declare the county is going to the devil, If Mich people were regarded in tho least, but very little progress would be made. The board ulo proposes to change the methods heretofore adopted in regard to taking care of the county poor and criminals coullited in the county jail. They will let a contract to some com petent person to feed, clothe and care for the paupers at so much for each person per week. A soperate contract will bo given to some physician to furnish medicine and medical treat ment to paupers and prisoners. No doubt this will ho an improvement over tho old methods. JMMHUIA TlOX Fit A I 'D. About tho worst swindle that was ever perpetrated upon the people ol Oregon was the appropriation ot StfUUO per year of their money to keep up a Hoard of Immigration for the benefit of Portland and dltl'ereut rail wav lines lending into tho State. lly the aid of highly colored pamphlets, mid overwrought reports of the fer tility, resources and capabilities ot tho State, they have brought many people here, who after making the long journey and spending consider able of their worldly year, tlnd the falsity of their information, and in many cases are lett Mrundcd without means, and have to get along as best they may. To tifls cause may bo attributed the low price of labor that is affecting om laboring classes. Willing hands are ottered to perforin work that does not exist. The stranded emigrant niuot live, and so works for whatever may he offered, thu ruining the interests of the labor lug men. Unfortunately it is only tho poor man that is caught by these seductive promise. Tho man with means can como and go us he pleases, ho we uro but little gainer Iroui the wealthier class, .Just at the present time the Immi gration Hoard and railroad agents uro bonding thulr enorgles towards llttlng up an Exhibit car to show at fairs and exhibitions throughout the 15at, in tho hope of attracting addi tloual Iinuiigrutlon to tho State. ) Every abnormal growth of pumpkins. apple, beet, -xc, every lung sttilK of wheat, oats rye, hnrloy and oihei grain, that iiu more represent the nrodiietions "f our s.tuto than one swallow makos a summer, urn eagerly seized UDoii. arranged to the best advantage, and with the aid of smooth timgued mauiignr are sent in this itar to gul iinsiisiiicloii and vor- dant granger, throughout th'i MUM ilnl vallev.
