From u pamphlet issued by the ln Jon County Hoard (if Immigration mo take the following: "Union county has tin area of ", tOO squnro miles or 3,15d,000 acres There arc about 2,000,000 acres .stir vcyed, which leaves nearly l,f00,00 unsurvoyed. Nearly all of the tiusiu vcyed laud is valuable rot- timber am pasture, and part for agriculture, Of tho 2, 000, 000 acre surveyed lands about 1,200,000 are valuable for ay rietilture and all tho rest is the finest of timber and grazing land. The rou-ih and rugged pnrt of tho Powder river mountains is a section valuable for the minerals obtained therein, and us such, worth more than an equal uniout of smoother land. .Minornb arc also found in portions of tho IHnc mountains and tho "Wallowa. Thus you will sec that wo have not only a diversified country, but also room and occupation for many. Xo otic class can nave a monopoly of our country. Here farmer, fruit raiser, stockman, lumberman and miner can each find room, and those condi tions necessary to succes in their brunch of trade. Tho settling of the country of course gives occupation to those of tho different trades and pro fessions, and business opportunities will open up as the country improves. Tho largest bodies of farming lands are found in Pino, JCagle, Lower Powder, Clover Creek. Indian, Wal lowa and Grande Hondo valleys. The Ontndo Hondo valley occupies the middle western part of tho country, having an nrca of f00 square miles. This is as line a body of rich, level, agricultural laud as there is on the Pacific Coast. It lies along t tic east ern bnso of (ho Hluo mountains; to tho north und to the south, are spurs. of tlieso mountains, to the cast a spur "of tho Powder river mountains, thus entirely encircling the Vltlley. The vullcy is well watered, ami liloug the baso and on the sides 'if the moun tains, there is plenty of timber. Small streams How from each side Into tho Grande Hondo liver, which coming into the valleys at the south west corner throuirh the Oro Dell can yon, fi(ws out at the northeast corner of the valley i Tho soil utld climate is adapted to tint culture of grain, liny, hops) fruits and Vegetables. Union county is a largo country Within itself, and each portion has its advantages, Some sections arc near tho railroad and have better shipping facilities, others have superior advan tages us a stock region, and others ngain being adjacent to the mining region arc enabled to sell their pro ducts at their doors. I must call attention to the rolling und somcwhltl rttgBvd html next to tho mountains, known as tho foot hills. Among these hills are many little valleys in which tho soli Is sun prisingly fertile Many small farms can be had under the homestead and pre-emption acts, which can be Worked profitably ill connection with Mockgrowiug. Tho foot-hills have a growth of nutritious bunch grass, and Ufford range for Mtiilll ur htrgo herds. Minerals found ate gold in quart, and placer, galena, copper and silver.
