ROSEBURG REVIEW FRIDAY, AUGUST 26, 1887. be fully organized and form one ''com mon brotherhood " Your respectfully, D. I. ASBTJRY. Office Lake Co. Examiner, " Lakeview, Aug. 4, '87. Com. State Press Ass'n, Yaquina City, Or. Gentlemen: Thinking you for invitation, would say, that owing to distance and press of business we are unable to attend jour meeting on August 12th and 13th. You have our best wishes for a successful and permanent organization of a State Press Association. Yours fraternally, BEACH & BEACIJ. Office Ashland Timxgs, Asiilaxd, Aug. r, '87. Messrs. M. L- Pipes, Coll. Van Cleve, J. II. A id rich, Coin of Invita tion Dear Sirs: Your invitation to attend a meeting of the editorial fra ternity at Yarmina City, Aug. 12th inst. was duly received. I aegret to jsay that I will be-unable to be present. The puspose of the meeting, however, the organization of a State Press Asso ciation, I shall be glad to assist, if it be in my power to do so in any way. From what little I know of the effects of such organizations in other states, I am persuaded that you will accom plish a benefit for the newspaper men of Oregon if you succeed in your ob jc-t. t Very truly yours, W. H. LEEDS. Office Courier, Oregon City, August 5, '87. M. L. Pipes, Yarpiina City, Or. Dear Sir: I acknowledge the receipt of your invitation to "attend a meet of the Editorial Fraternity of Oregon," and was in hopes the Courier might be able to have a representative pre sent; but it cannot be. I recognize the need of organizing a State Press Association, and hope that a pernia nent beginning will bo made by the "entlemen who have interested them selves in the matter. Fraternally yours, I . L, MAHIEU, Baker City, August 9, '87, Messrs; M. L, Pipes, Coll. Van Cleve and J. II. Aldrich, Invitation Committee State Press Association Gents: Your kind invitation to me to be present at the organization of a State Press Association at Yaquina City on the 12th and 13th .inst. has been received and it is with regret that I hereby notify you that owing to pre cngagement3 I will be unable to at tend the meeting. The object of the meeting is, in my opinion, a good one, and will, if properly carried on, be of great benefit to our young, noble and growing State. As is well known to some of your readers at least, I am one of the oldest printers and Editors on the Pacific coast, being 66 years of age having gone to the "case" in 1837, and commenced slinging the "old gray goose's quill" as editor in 1813, in Iowa and have resided on this coast 37 years. I have a love for the business in all its branches, j The art preservative is the power that moves and controls the thought of the world to a greater ex tent than any other influence that can be brought to bear upon the human mind; then why should not its mem- lers unite to increase its iufluenco and elevate its standard for influence and good. Let your motto be onward and upward uutil the topmost round of the ladder is reached. - I will be proud to have my 'name enrolled as one of the members of the Oregon State Press Association. Again thanking you for your kind invitation, and wishing you God spceJ, I remain Yours fraternally, J. M. SUEP1IERD. Office Farmer & Dairyman. Portland, Aug. 10, '87. To M. I. Pipes, Col. Van Cleve, Etc., Yaquina, Or. Gentlemen :- Having received your invitation to attend a proposed meeting of the editorial fraternity to be held at Ya quina on the 12th, and 13 th, insts., I deem it a pleasnre as well as a duty to acknowledge the same in beh; of the F. and D, Pub. Co., which wishes such a move as you propose every success, and I heait:ly regret that we are unable to be present as I bad hoped to be up to this date. If there i3 any one thing needed in the newspaper business in Oregon more than the "filthy lucre" itself, it is or ganization for mutual protection and advantage. Please count us in, in anything you may organize, and oblige us with whatever proceedings you may have. With abundant success, Yours truly. ED WD CASEY. Cffice Salem Statesman. Salem, Aug, 10, '87. Messrs. M. L.- Pipes, Coll. Van Cleve, J. A. Aldrich, Cora, on Invi tation, State Press Ass'n, Yaquina City, 9r. Gentlemen : This office begs to acknowledge the receipt of tho invitation to be present at Ya quina Bay on Friday and Saturday, and in speaking to you the regret we feel at our inability to be pres ent, to assure your committee, and through it, the gentlemen of the newspaper fraternity of Oregon, gathered with you, of our entire sympathy with the movement. We have delayed answering the invitation., in hopes that, in some way or another, we would be able to be represented by one or another of our staff. However, it transpires that tins will net be possi ble, so wo take pleasure in wishing the members of the press of this State that may gather there and we hope they will be many a delightful visit, a sue cessful and interesting meeting, the formation of an association for mutual beneGt, and that the entire time passed on ttie shores of beautiful Yaquina Bay, the pleasure resort of Oregon, may prove -of benefit to each one there, individually, and to the gentlemen of the editorial profession of the State of Oregon, generally. If any assess meats are made we will take pleasure in being counted in, and will also be glad to meet with you at the next meeting of the Association. Very truly, gentlemen, we beg to remain, for the bc-bt interests of the Oregon press, Youis to command, ISAAC A MANNING, II J. HENDRICKS, GEO. II. SAUBERT, E. B. PI PER I'll U Pill KJ.IH X MED l CIXJES, A visit to Dr. Green's Laboratory, at Woodbury, N J., has considerably changed our view?, and especially our prejudices in regard to what are generally known as "Standard Pat ent Medicines." Being a physician I had the curiosity to know how such a sale of two medical preparations could bo sustained for so many years. The per fect system upon which the business is conducted, and the pharmaceutical arrangements for the manufacture of the two recipes with which we were made acquainted, are sufficiently con vincing to us that the August Flower, for Dyspepsia and Liver Complaints, and Bosciiee's German Syrup, for Throat and Lung Troubles, were for the complaints they are recommended, most excellent remedies, and only regret that in much of our practice, medical ethics prevent us from pre scribing them without making the for mulas public. When we were shown the great quantity of voluntary letters forwarded Dr. Green from all parts of the country, and from all classes of people, lawyers, ministers and doctors, giving a description of their ailments, testimonials of their cures, etc., I feel like endoising Dr. Green's suggestion that the Govcrn raentaccept such valuable formulas, and license them for general use by giving protection to the inventer same as pat ents generally. Perfect Hair Indicates a natural and healthy condi tion of the scalp, and of the gland through which nourishment is obtained. When, in consequence of age and dis ease, the hair becomes weak, thin, and gray, Ayer's Hair Vigor will strengthen it, restore its original color, promote its rapid and vigorous growth, and impact to it the lustre and freshness of youth. I have used Ayer's Hair Vigor for a long time, and am convinced of its value. When I was 17 yean of age my hair began to turn gray. I commenced using the Vigor, and was surprised at the good effects it produced. It not only restored the color to my hair, but so- stimulated its growth, that I have now more hair than ever before.
