The Uupqua valley is without question the uioat pleasant climate on the Pacilic slope surrounded a it is cn all sides by mountain rang es, w are not subject to the extremes " of heat and cold that pervades other sections of our country. With our gradual elevation from- the sea and our numerous small mountains and valleys almost any desired altitude can be found within the limits of Douglas county. Situated as we aie midway between the wid Willamette on tbn north aud the Sacremento valley on the south, our humidity and rain fall is a mean between the two. The cold wave from the south which struck us last week has passed on followed by the gentle rain whioh has in its turn given place to the g'ad sunshine, and here we are in mid winter in our shirt sleeves with the green fields rolled in their cornet of flowers all around us; while our neighbor just across the Cal Hpoois are shivering with cold, their farms snowed unde-, and on the south of us they are suffering from a drouth.
