Tillery is having the pleasure of a visit from her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Bailey, of Salem. Mrs. C. V. Johnson, who had been spending a few weeks in Portland, returned home Satur day evening. J. P. Logan, the King's Valley miller, was looking after busi ness matters in town Tuesday and Wednesday. W. B. Lacey a former clerk at Harris' store was in town Tues day, lie now lives at Rose Lodge, over in the Siletz reservation. Otto Moore, who was catcher on last season's O. A. C. base ball team has been chosen cap tain of the College nine for the coming year. John Brumfield has bought, through the Robinsen Cate Co., two lots on 14th and Washing ton streets and will build resi dence properties. There will be a meeting of Corvallis Grange at Agricultural Hall, Saturday afternoon, De cember 19, at two o clock. Couch Norcross has accepted a position with a Seattle mining company and left Portland Sun day night expecting to take up the work last Monday. The Corvallis High School boys won ' their fifth game of football this season last Satur day, playing against the Browns ville team, the score being 2 toO. Marion Bailey, of Oak Grove, who brought suit against Ben ton county for $1700 for injuries received by the falling of the Thornton Lake Bridge, has got a change of venue to the Polk countv circuit court. Wm. Spiven, of Fargo, North Dakota, is expected to arrive next week and will-stop with his mend J- H. Price. Mr. bpiven to make his home in Oregon. There will be a meeting of the voters of School District No. 9 at the court house Tuesday, De cember 22, at two o'clock, to vote on the question of levying a seven mill tax for the support of the public schools in the district. Forrest Smithson, who won the world renowned hurdle races at the International Olympic Games in London, was presented with a handsome loving cup by the OAC students at the Battal ion hop last Saturday night. Five persons were taken into membership at the M. E. Church within the last ten days. Al ready the church is filled at ev ery service, ana it the increase continues, more room will have to be provided to seat the con gregation. Among the recent arrivals in CorvalUs are Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Arnold and Mrs. Pickerill, moth er of Mrs. Arnold, from Wash- burne, 111. They are so much pleased with the city that it is their intention to locate here permanently. The new officers for the I. O. O. F. Lodge for the ensuing year are as follows: Noble Grand, A. L. Stevenson ; Vice Grand, L. V. Hawley ; Secretary, Chambers ; Financial Sec retary, M. S. Bovee ; Treasurer, A. J. Johnson. John Bauer is a good friend of ours and we want it distinctly understood that he has not been on a prolonged spree, as his face at this time would indicate. He simply rubbed up against some poisoned oak and caught it both "goin and comin." Born. To Mrs. W. Wildig, Tuesday, December 15, a ten pound boy. Mr. Wildig is the plumber at J. R. Smith's hardware store and it was a plum sight to look at him as a high 6tepper on account of the distinguished arrival. He will dig a little harder to make a liv ing for the family. Williams, of Airlie, died of heart disease at the faniT ily home on Monday and was buried at the Williams grave yard on Wednesday afternoon. Denny, of OAC, have returned from Spokane, where they attended the big Apple Show. Professor Lewis, who is at the head of the horticultural department at the college here, was one of the judges, while the other gentle men in the party were busily engaged in demonstrating the best methods of packing apples. The ladies of the Christian church will hold a bazaar Fri day and Saturday of this week at M. Tillery's grocery store.
