James Herron, of southern Benton, passed through town on Wednesday, and was headed for the big Apple Show at Albany. Henry Price is moving to the S. B. Owing to the building now oc cupied by him having been sold Mr. Wilson will be compelled to store his goods and drop out of business, at least for the present. , Miss Isabelle Gray, one of the oldest and most popular teachers in the county, has removed to Heppner, Eastern Oregon, where she has an excellent position in the High School. During the last few days that the colonist rates were effective more than twelve hundred peo ple came to Oregon on one-way tickets to make this state their permanent home, Dr Hanford, the dentist, was exceedingly pleasant Wednesday morning, caused, perhaps, by the return of Mrs. Hanford who has-been visiting friends in Port land for one month. There is wailing at the home of Henry Price over the loss of the family cat that has been a member of the home for many years. It strayed away and dil igent search is now being made. " It would certainly be a com mendable act on the part of the city council to establish a uni form grade for the construction of cement walks on the various streets of the city. Many new walks are now being constructed and it would materially aid the builder. It would also avoid troublesome complications in re gard to lining up the walks. Wednesday evening was La dies' Night at the Commercial Club and the large' attendance had a very pleasant time. The club is now perfecting its plans to have Corvallis properly rep resented at Portland on Novem ber 21, when the big OAC-U. of O. game . is played, the object being to root for the college boys md to boost for Corvallis first, last and all the time. Turkeys have been coming in quite freely during the past few days and the cruel butcher is busy putting on the finishing touches, trimming his whiskers ready for the market. The price paid is 16 cents per pound and many, of the. farmers will go home smiling with a neat little sum of money in their pockets. The turkey certainly has no cause for rejoicing at the thought of Thanksgiving day. Casper Zierolf, of southern Benton, came home Wednesday.
