Mr, Tate, a lecturer for the A. O. U. W.,gave one of the best talks that has been heard in the chapel this year, when he visited the Col lege last -Wednesday. He said, "Be worthy to occupy the highest position that the natiou can bestow, then it is is not so important whether you get it or not. But be worthy of it." And then he said that the one thing- that is neefcssary to the young man or woman starting out in life is self respect. If you would have the world Jrespect you learn to respect yourself. Major C. B. Harden, when aked by President Gatch in chapel one morning if he ever thought it strange that the strongest and most healthy-looking boys were the ones that were tick the most, said that he had noticed it very often. He said that to some it might seem very strange that the strong men were so sickly while the we ik-lo3k ing men were always well, but he knew why it was. He said it did not hurt his feeliDgs to have them do that way, but he did not like to have them deceive themselves by thinking that they were deceiving him when they handed in such ex cuses. ie also remarked that there were more men here with corns on their feet than any place he had ever . been. He closed by remarking that every man was mak ing his own record here and that he was keeping it for him. and would promote mm according to that rec ord. He showed how Cardinal Newman, than the - average young mair, had i bv bis own 'personal effort raised himself to "a high place in the Catholki. church and amortg the thinking men of the age. He then said .that although he was-born and raised in New York City he deplored the fact that so many boys were leaving the farm to seek their fortunes in the city.
