Let us solve his much-coveted position known as problem, frankly, fearlessly, no the "whole push." He opened Wy and speedily. Let us put it the campaign last week, and with his friend Bryan, has been stirrinp- nn trie Ohio Democrats. and promises them the usual glorious victory. To be "it" i a democratic convention in re publican Ohio does not always carry with it assurance of a state victory. Portland highwaymen have reached that stage of audacity I and daring in their business that robberies are committed richt in the heart of the city. A gentle" man was held up and robbed on a well-lighted and much traveled street, within two blocks of the postefnee and Hotel Portland. We are glad to learn, however, that the police have kept them- selves in sate places and kept their gloves clean, and not one of them has yet been found or held UB. t or this the police COmmiS- va . a . sion should receive great praise tJ The annual convention of the Grand Army of the Republic has just closed in San Francisco, and the fast diminishing columns have broken rank and returned . to their homes. Gray haired and bent, the old heroes who served their country its hour of greatest jperil, who marched through the valley of the shadow of death, est foes that ever drew sword their own countrymen, and the world is now doing homage to both. The blue and the gray now walk side by side. All honor to the heroes on both sides they are fast fading away. sV The Volcano Colima, situated in the state of Colima, Mexico, and some thirty miles from the city of the same name, is again in eruption, and scientists think it will change its shape. It is a double- peaked mountain, and near its base is situated some of the finest coffee plantations it the world. Colima coffee has a reputation for delicacy of flavor that causes it to command the highest price in the market. The entire crop, outside of home consumption goes to San Fran cisco. It is unfortunate that every volcanic eruption in trop ical countries should destroy so many fine coffee plantations, but we must remember that to pro duce the best coffee a volcano is the one essential quantity and growers are always ready and willing to take the chances.
