THE CORVALUS GAZETTE TUESDAY, JUNE il, IOCS. 7 HE NATION'S SAFETY. To a casual observer it would aorjear that our rarw advance m C civilization is attended with un mistakable deterioration of prl vate and public morals. Such observers look backward and bewail the departure of the irood old times. They declare iuai crime uu iuc uucm that civic corruption and official malfeasance are the characters ties of our political life and that individual avarice and selfishness I were never before so prevalent. tr u. nllo(i'ntic or true are paying a fearful price for our advance in knowledge, culture ,11 CMAWbe - and refinement. Fortunately thev are only superficially true The means of quick and reliable inteiCOUrse between distant P "- tions of the country are abuna- ant The news-Collector IS ubl- quitoUS and ArgUS-eyed. Crime, Committed, attempted, even but eontemolated is impossible of mnrMlniM,. The teiePTaoh and it to every part of the country In a few hours at most crime per petrated in the remotest hamlet is known everywhere. Each twenty-tour hours tne daily press publishes the gruesome, revolt- j in? account ana serves 11 witn the mornino- cofiee and buns of of him who cares to read it. Unthinkingly we conclude that the world is fast hastening to the bad and that the ultimate wreck of our social, religious and politi cal institutions is, near. It is not so. We are at fault We have mistaken the dross and impurities which the growth of civilization 'has brought to the surface and from which it is purifying com munities as things of real growth. The truth is that never before have truth, and purity and tem perance and justice and mercy and righteousness had so many intelligent, earnest, devoted fol lowers. The great heart of the American people beats true to virtue. Their moral fiber is stronsr. healthful; their moral perception quick and correct; their moral purpose strong, con scious, reliable. .Appeal any question containing a moral ele ment to our people and whether it. concerns their social, religious r political life it will be decided on right lines. It tears the mask from the face of hypocrisy, re bukes demagogy and ridicules the charlatan. The man who does not see and recognize this moral sentiment of our people is unfitted for their leadership. They will not fol low him long nor far. Lincoln saw it, believed in it, trusted it and never appealed to it in vain. This, too, is the explanation ot President Roosevelt's popularity. It is this moral sentiment which is the real safe-guard of our institutions. Let it be in stilled by the teachers of our youth: Jet the pulpit instruct and ueveiop ic, xec tne press strengtn en and confirm it and the rapid pace of civilization will carry us as a people up to higher levels of thought and action where we shall more certainly work out whatever righteous purpose In finite Wisdom lays upon us: Death Came Suddenly. Private Words for Women. (Albany Democrat.) The eminent and euccesslul electric and medical physician, Dr. Darrin, has discovered and perfected a Bystem of treatment that has caused a revolution in the treatment of female diseases. Whenever his electrical and medical treatment is tested and known it has done away with excessive dosings, with nauseous drugs and painful surgical op erations, whereby so many precious lives have been lost. "Asa discovery it ranks with Harvey's discovery of the circulation of the blood It has proyed in more than a thousand cases of the worst kind to be a positive cure for the' following female diseases : Ovarian tumors, polypus, ulceration and dropsy of the womb, inflamation, con gestion and falling of womb, painful and suppressed menstruation , bearing down pains, backache, headache, racking cough, melancholy, absence of ambition or desire to live, or in fact, any complaint having its .origin in a disordered state of the generative and accompanying organs, whether from contagious diseases, hered itary, tight lacing or other causes. His method of treatment is harmless, pleasant and mild. It is applied directly to the parts ; can be applied by the pa tients themselves, thus securing local treatment at home, and its application is easy and simple. Its curative action on the inflamed' congested and ulcerated parts is immediate. Dr. Darrin refrains from making Dub lic the names of hundreds of ladies who have been restored to health, with due deference to the delicacy of their afflic tions. . Tbe following card" was voluntarily of fered by a ldy desirous of helping others similarly afflicted. . . TO TUB LADIES." Dr. Darrin treated me ene year ago for catarrh, neuralgia and rheumatism, scalp trouble, deafness, general nervous de bility, female troubles and partial paraly sis of neck of the bladder, with marked success. I feel that words are inadequate to express my gratitude for the great good Dr. Darrin has done me, and I most heartily recommend the doctor to the afflicted, -Miss Minnie Wells, 157 18th St, Salem". - Dr. Darrin is located at the Revere Hotel and will give free examination to all, 10 to 5 or 7 to 8 daily.. The poor free, and those able to pay at the rate of $5 a week or ia that proportion of time the case may require.
