IOI,Sii, wnuea ouues senator, was worn at what was then called Dolphsburgh in Tompkins county, in the State of, New York, on the 19th day of October, 1835.1 .After arriving, at the age of eighteen years, lie taught school a por- tion of each year while acquiring a education and his profession. He stud- ied law with Hon. Jeremiah McCuire, at Havana, New York, and was admit teutouie i.ar at ine general termor the Supreme Court, of that State, held at Binghamton in November, 1861. He practiced his profession in Schuyler Co., New York, during the winter of lMl-2, and in May, 162, enlisted in Captain .M. T. Upon his arrival in Ore gon Mr. Dolph at once began the prac tice of his profession- . With the begin ning of the year 1863 he formed a copartnership- with ITor J. H. Mitchell which continued for more tsrai ten years and terminated upon Mr. Mitch ell's election to the United States Sen ate. He was appointed City Attorney for the city of Portland, in October, 1864, and held that position about one and one half years, during which time lie prepared and proposed important a- mendments to the city charter, hich were afterwards adopted, and also re- vised for publication the .ordinances of the city. Mr. Dolph has been an active participant in the politics of the State. He was Chairman of the Republican State. Central Committee from 1866 to 1868. Mrs. Laura li. of Henry Tillard, E., the able and brilliant financier who has done bo much towards the development of the north west coast during the last few years. He was consulting attorney of tlie Ore' gon Railway and Navigation Company, the Oregon and California Railroad Co., the Oregon Improvement Co., the Ore gon Trans-Continental Co., and the ad visor o the officers of the Northern Pa cifie Railroad Co. at Portland, and the attorney of other minor corporations. He was also the President of the Oregon Improvement Company, the Vice-President of the Oregon Railway and Navi gttion Company and the Oregon and Trans-Continental Company. In decorating the Church, E. F. McNelly, Francis Miles, Mrs. Moore, Mrs Cox, and Mrs. George gave kind assistance.
