The historian says that Astoria is out of debt, and there is coin ia the treasury. Last spring the Englo Canal Ccmpa ny asked twenty or twenty-five cents an inch for water for mining purposes, and the miners at Sparta, nUnion coun ty, would not pay it. Lately however Perkins, of the firm of bower, Cranston & Perkins, owners of the ditch, sold Jiis IntereM to his partnea who immediately reduced the price ol water to taen cents an inch, which some miners are willing to pay. The result has been that on Monday t!e miners M Sparta resumed operations. Soon money will once again circu'ate in that camp. The elopement that commenced on the Touchet last week, and ended it Weston, has some peculiarities about it that do not usually atterd cases in which iGra man steals another's wife. Usually this is called running off, but in this instanee the parties walked off, and traveled fifty miles on loot. ILd they been allowed to go ut molested, and had they kept op their gait, they would have reached Los Angles by winter at the rate they traveled. But the cruel hearted Justice of the Peace at Weston committed them both to j;il to answer a charge of adultry, and there they would both have remained had it not been that friends of the foolish woman came to her rescue and bailed her out. But no one has come to the relief of the man who appropri ated hi neighbors wife, and he languisheth in the Pendleton jail. A couple of years ago, a robbery of Wells, Fargo & Co.'s treasure I ox occured. and a large amount of money was 6toIen. Lately a participant in the crime being arrested, exposed the complicity ol one Milton Sheparrfson living at Sparta, in Baker county, jn the crime. A few days ago he was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Ilarper and Charley Adams, under the name of Milton Matthews, and is now on his way to California, where the crime was committed, for trial. JOHN W. For restoring Gray: Hair to Its natural Vitality and? Color. ; A dressing' vhick is ut ou;0; liilccablc, healthy, .n X effectual for ''preserTing tbo hair. Faded or gray hair is sooti tutored to its original color with the glost an j freshness of yextk. Thin hair it thick ened, falling hair checked, tuid bald ness often, though not always, cured by its use. Nothing can restore the hair where the follicles are destroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed. But such as remain can be saved for usefulness by this application. Instead of fouling the hair with a pasty sedi ment, it will keep it clcau and vigorous. Its occasional uso will prevent the hair from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. Free from those deleterious substances which make some preparations dangerous and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, nothing else can bo found so desirable. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it a rich glossy lustre and u grateful perfume. i Prepared by Dr. J. C.
