DALLAS, SATURDAY, MAR 1. VIOTOHIA C. WOOUUULL. We print below an e ctract f iu th speech of Mrs. WoodhuH which was to have been delivered to Cooper Insti New York, January 9, 1873. We should like to reprint the whole speech, but our limited space will u t permit Among the many things said in the speech to which we refer, is found the following. JJ Y WtlEXDS A ND FEL LOW CITIZENS: I come into vour presence iroiu a cell in the American Rastile, to which I was consigned by the cowardly servility of tbe age. I am still held under heavy bonds to return to that cell, or to meet luy trial in a United States Court, upon a scandalous charge trumpt up by the ignorant or the corrupt officers of the law, conspiring with others to deprive 'me. under the falsest ar.d shallowed IJoceSjOf my inherited privileges American citizen. In my person, the freedom of the press is assailed, and stricken down, and such has been the adverse concurrence of circumstan ces that the press itself has taeitly consented, almost with unanimity, to this sacriligious invasion of one of the most sacred of civil rights. Public opinion too has been abur.ed iuto coa curriog for a moment with th:s out rage. My sister and myself are now in dicted in the United States Court ou the preposterous charge of sending obscene literature through the Uuited States mail a charge which the officers of the Government will never dare to bring to a trial, as they cannot afford themselves to be brought into complete ridicule. If anything which I can say in this address, or which i can say or write at any time, can pro voke or sting them into a fully ami madness of exposing the weakness and the damnable outrage of this unhallow ed proceeding against peaceable au J law abiding citizens, by bringing tho case to trial I shall cousider that succss the most fortunate event of my life. lut I now predict before you, and nuke ray formal record of that prediction for luure refferenca and me that I sluli fall, utterly fail in the attempt. The District Attorney, and everybody con cerned in this nefarious mitter have either already accomplished all they aimed at, by covering my si?tr and me with the odium of being prisoners and accused of a scandalous offense, or they have had enough of the Wiioiu matter seeing that it was a plunder from the start, and wish theu. selves fairly rid of it. 1 repeat my prediction, and make it as marked and distinct as po-.ail.le : thj Uuited States Government will never proceed to trial, in the cae now on their court docket in the Southern District of New York, against Victoria C Woodhull and Tennie C Claflin, for violating the Statute of Congress against transmitting obscene literature through the mails. They will never dare to do it. On the other hand, T predict that the Government will-not enter nolle prosequi, and make thereby the only honorable reparation, to some slight extent, which it would be in their power to make, for the outrnge they have committed on our individual rights. And my friends, you must not forget that, when an individual is wronged, by the superaction of law officers, the public is thereby outraged. I predict, however, that the course they will pursue will be to hold ttie case-Cver our heads, as a threat, to de Joyivd postpone it from time to time, kT pretend that they intend to bring us to trial, and yet never to do so in fact ; in the hope that fortune will favor them in getting them out of the scrape, through our death or proverty. or virtual surrender to the force of a long continued persecution. Rut they reckon without their host. The cards of fate are shuffled for a different deal. I cive notice linm and and now, I hope the occasion IS sufficiently public one.that the nubltna. lion office of Woodhull & Claflin's WEEKLY is at Broad street, New York city, and that from that office there will Boon be issued and sold to all appli cants a revfsed edition of the suppn-as ed number of Woodhull & Claflin's Weekly, containing the Beech r Tilton scandal," and that wlihin a few weeks there will probably have been sent a million copies of it to every part of the world, so that the whole public frhall be my jury, and decide whether there is anything obioone ia that carueyt Jind jUMuj portant statement!
