Minister Dufaufe addressed the House in favor of reject ing petitions for dissolution. lie spoke ironically of Gambetta, whose speeches, he said were the cause of tho present needless agitation. Speeches followed from members of all parties. The de bate was one of the most violent and and exciting which has taken place in the Assembly, and lasted until one o,clock this morning, when the chain- ber, by a vote of 400 to 201,rejected the petitions and passed to the order of the day.i! Thiers was not present during the debate, either in the afternoon or evening- Uefore adjonring the As sembly adopted a resolution directing that Dufaure,s speech be p a rded iu all communes of France. A similar resolution in regard to the speeches of tbe Radical Deputies was voted down. Tne Monarchist journals are greatly pleased with tho stand taken by Du iaure. the Radical press maintain a tone of indifference and declare they will continue the agitation for dissolu tion. Chicago, December 18, A Wash ington special says it is posittvly stated that Colfax will take charge of the New York Tribune some time next week. Arraogcmen s have been fully consurnated, and his resignation as vice President will probably be pre sented on the re ascmbliu of Con- res?, after the holiday recess Colfax is very sangunine that he will be able to briug the Tribune up to its old standing.
