For VJco-Eresldent, B. GRATZ BKOWiV, OF MISSOURI. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTORS E. D. SIIATTUCK, of Multnomah Co. GEORGE R. HELM, of Linn county. II. II. GATES, of Wasco county. ACCEPT YOUR NOMINATION IN THE CONFIDENT TRUST THAT THE MASSES OF OUR COUNTRYMEN, NORTH AND SOUTH, ARE EAGER TO CLASP HANDS ACROSS THE BLOODY CHASM VU1ICII HAS TOO LONG DIVIDED THEM FORGETTING THAT THEY HAVE BEEN ENEMIES IN THE JOYFUL CONSCIOUS NESS THAT THEY ARE AND MUST HENCEFORTH REMAIN BRETHERN." HORACE GREELEY. HUN ifOLLADAV. This gentleman is at Salctri daring jh( present session of tUo legislature, having his quarters gorgeously fitted up, and situated in tho central portion, of the city, and consequently accessible to all: We understand from those whom Mr. Holladay condescended to admit, that ho is a very generous man j keeps on hand with which to treat his friends, plenty of good whisky and cigars ; he keeps horses and carriages, a troop of servants, and has a telegraph office at his rooms with wires connected with the main line. Of course he is at the caoitol only for pleasure, during the session of the legislature, the Supreme Court, and during the fair, because at this time he has a better opportunity to acquaint, himscif with a people he has sacrificed so much time and money to make happy, and who had it not been for his self-sacrificiug spirit, enlisted solely for their good, and his undoing love for this our lovely valley, would today have been unknown to fame ; and would have remained as when he found them, in their normal condition untu tered and unlearned in all that pertains to civilized life, spending their time as of yore, ri Jing o'er hilt and dale astride the beautiful- moon-eyed cayuse, with leathern leggings and Spanish spurs. Mr Holladay is a-generous man,he has placed upon the ocean for the special benefit of the people of Oregon, a lino of steam-ships, so that the farmers of this valley could get their wheat and other products of the farm to San Francisco ; and yet his generous heart was not content ; he has actually come among us in person, and discovering that, this beautiful valley was cut off from its only commercial mart, by rugged mountains almost impassable, he has built us railroads, over which we are driven by steam, and telegraph line? over which our thoughts are driven by li'htcninjr, and water crafts to amuse us upon the waters and all the streams that permeate the snow capped mountains on either side, and to-day, amid the cheeriDg scream of his steam whistle and the snorting of his iron horees, .and tho flashing of his light ening constantly cairyingovcr his wires the rejoicings of a devoted people, he sits at the capitd tranquil and happy, in the conciousnefs that he has become the saviour and moses, of this once op pressed and exiled people. The Legislature is now in session, but Mr. Holladay wants nothing at their hand, because be said so long before they convened through his personal organ, established in his great magna uiSuiljr to educate the people; of course there lire a few unimportant matters, which he asks that body to do for him which is being done at the earliest possi ble tiiomcnt io reciprocation of the ten thousand favors received. Among the few bills which have been infto- ductd for tho gratification of Mr llnlhidnv: n a v be noticed a billtoaid the tuildiu? ui'i railroad i'ortlaud to - Salt Lake, the city of saints, where Mr. Holladay ranks second toBrigham Young; a bill to appropriate money to build a State House, to the enormous amount of onlt hundred thousand dol lars ; a bill to protect the few remain ing Ducks and Geese and other game in the Wallamette so that wheu tho Count and Lady from France come again to sport, they should have no cause to complain, that the poor peasants ol Oregon were allowed ruthlessly and indiscriminately to kill and slaughter the game of the coutrtry, so that the nobles could see no pleasure. Mr. Holladay having done so much for Oregon, and in his modesty asjeed so trifling favors in return, it is thought best by some of his most intimate friends, that something should be done at the present scssiou to make at least a respectable showing of their grati tude, and it is proposed to introduce a bill, by the provisions of which, the State will pay the simple interest on four and one half millions of his railroad bonds for twenty years ; of course the State will not feel the loss of the money as it will be paid out gradually. This is all, except fir the present Mr. Hulladay suggests that, no untricndly legislation should be had by way of compelling him to fensc up his railroad or fixing any rates of carriage over his several line of thoroughfares in the State and the like. What a good thing it is to have men of largo means come here and expend their money among, and for the good of the people. P. S. The bills above referred to have been and will be, mostly introduc ed by Hon. members from Multano mah. ANOTHER IIUMUtJt;. j In order to secure the influence of the noble women of Oregon, some of the hypocritical (Jrantifes have intro duced a bill, ostensibly for the pur pose of extending legal rights to women, called the "Married Women's Property Bill," This bill is a humbug. It ex tends no rights of const quence not already enjoyed by thatclusuf citizens, under the Constitution and lav 3 as they now stand. But the bill is big with mischief to the just rights of women. It promulgates the idea that wouicu have no rights under our rescut laws aiy more than they had at common law. It talks about the marital rights of the h us baud ami recognizes them as now existing, thereby, falsifying our own Constitution. It makes all her rights depend upon tho whims of a county Judge. This is au insult to the intelli gence of every lady in Oregon. Ihc bill rofered to, in terms declares the inferiority of women. This is a specU men of equal rights, hypocritically proclaimed to tho world iu the Phila delphia Platform. If they mean what they say, why do they not come up to tho scratch, and give women equal rights? By the second plank in the Philadel phia Platform, the party sayF,"complctc liberty and exact equality in the enjoyment of all civil, political and public rights should be established and effectually maintained throughout the Union by efficient and appropriate State and federal legislation' Now let any honest man of any party read that declaration, and then read the bill refered to, and then place his hand upon his heart and his eyes upon Heaven, and under fear of swift destruction by the Almighty ruler of the universe, he will be compelled to exclaim,-the second plank in the Philadelphia Platform, is a miserable, lying, hypo critical cant, or this bill a humbug. Why not give women equal property rights ? Po they not labor as hard to rear their families as men ? Po they not feci the fame interest in the welfare of republican government as men ? i Have they not as a class as much discrimina tion and intelligence as men 1 Are they not as economical and industrious as men ? Po they squander more time and money than men ? Are thcyj not as temperate and of as good morals as men? Why then keep them bowed down with the slavish chains of the dark 8gcs ? Shame on the provision of the Bill ! Let it he consigned to Cver lasting infamy. Let it be understood we intend to watch with, care, tho hypocritical movemeuts of some of these Gnmtitcs during tho campaign WHY GREELEY SHOULD HE ELECTED PRESIDENT. Because he is the choice of two great National Conventions, assembled fresh from the people, lie is a man of age and experience and learned in the science of government. IJo is a great historian. He is an honest man. He s a man of good morals, and has been from his youth up. lie is well versed in the histoiy of our government and i.'s acquainted with all its workings, and ablest men. He is a man of strong mind, large brain, aud is uot carried away by the charms of strong drink, Tobacco, fast horses or fancy hounds. He is strictly a temperance man. lie is a great journalist aud has a world wide reputation fur honesty and states manship, He is opposed to nepotism. He is in favor of civil service reform commencing with one term for Presi dent. He is oppo td to usurpations. He is in faver j of acquiescence in the will of the people as expressed by their representatives in. Congress. He dots not want Santo Domingo against the will of the people tf that Government and ours or at tho expeme of a bloody war. He will not ask to have wholesome laws of long standing repealed for his personal gratification. He will receive no preseuts and reward the donor with lucrative offices. Because if elected he will attend strictly to the business of the office, and not squander his timo at places of fashionable resort. Because the people waut a change of adminis tration and can safely trust Horace Greeley and B. Gratz Brown. HEN JIOLADAY AND OM1EARA RUN THE GRANT PAUTV IN ORE GON. Holladay and company commenced last spring to bring about the election to the Uuitctjl States Senate, either Holladay himself or st.uie one of hid menial took, the people irrespective of party affiliations opposed it; the fight comimfnced, aud has wagtd hotter aud more hut, until Saturday last, it culminated in the tlcctiuu tf Mitchell, the complete triumph of Ben Hol!udy over the people ; of corruption oer honesty ; and political bribery, gam bling and thieving, over fair dealing and common justice. How long will the people of Ou-gcn Ic duped into fcuLmisstcu to corrupt monied rings ; in this instance it was a death fctruggle, between the jcrj!e in one side, to elect an htLe? t faithful ervuut afrcady tried as Senator, aid Ben Holladay on y:e other side to cUct a political trickster am! paid attciney, to rrpie- scnt his iLelividual interest, Ben and corruption won ; the people, honesty and fair dealing lost. This is but another unmistakable proof of the un bounded corruptions ot the present administration ; the amount of money spent and oflcied was muimous ; five thousand offered to Senator Crystal, ten thousand we understand to Allen, three thousand to Tyson to simply leave th capitol, Ben Holladay 's head quarters were open day and tdght, whisky flowed like crystal streams of mountain water, while the laws and edicts ot the Kin" weic carried out to the letter. We have been carefully keeping run and noticing its history; let the Gractitcs now stand up beforo this people, and deny corruption, and we will meet them with the weapons of eternal truth and prove them liars. All IIonor to The Immortal Two. Polk County has honest Repre sentatives. Mr. Ciystal and Mr. Allen are the only two Rcj ublican members who refused to be dragged into the su port of the corrupt it nists, all lienor to their names and uncompromising t-pir it and bravery. They alone, were able to withstand the assaults of money bags, and hypocritical pretentions; they spurned the offer of gold and stood upon their honor ; thoy remained true to their constituents aud their pledges, and their names will live in the grateful hearts of this people, when the names and memory of those who proved rec reant to their trust, shall be hurried deep in infamy and undistin guished ruins. As AVE predicted. The Grant Republicans of the Legislature have repudiated the the woman suffrage plank in their platform. Caplcs, the Portland force Pump, says they ain't fit to voto. More Jobs. Now the Senatorial contest is over, the people may look for huge jobs m the foim of personal legislation. Holladay, in addition to the bills already introduced for his benefit, under different and fictitious names, will want a large amount of legislation ; and now as he is supposed to have a' working majority in both Houses, jhe will undoubtedly enter upon some of tho most gigantic schemes and swindles ever perpetrated upon a free people. This will not be intended by the great majority of the members, but they will be ltd into these things by an unscrupulous minority, who are governed and con trolled by Ben Holladay. Bills, joint resolulioi.3 and memorials will be passed under fictitious nimes. grant ing privileges and immunities to the King unparalleled iu the history of republican governments, aud only known j to personal governments, among which ours is fast taking rank. , HeAV the Tin Net eaeEs. Before the election of Senator, Holladay 's personal crgans whipped in the membcis by the cry of party usage and party fealty, remember your allegiance to y our King. Now tho election is over, the same personal organs will beg, and say, we had a glorious fight, but the thing is is dune, and now hurrah for Grant! Sulmit to our yoke with ptience ftr the sake of party ; don't leave us new, if we did beat you by corrupt means, for the sake of that glorious old p&rty. Think! O dou't leave us ! Let the people watch their loving brothers and see if we hav'nt guessed right. The Situation. We discover fi&ce the triumph of the corruption, that honest Republicans go about the streets with their heads drooping and sorrow stricken hearts, and well they may; when they reflect upon the stubborn feet, th.nt the (Irani Hepuhli- can party in Oregon to day, is ruu by Ben's money and the re udiatin; pi. trailer's pen. To their question of what shall we do," we in w r, ftand by the ttuc IU publican pnity, cctm and &.vibt us to Liek cut of jU.ec and jower, llutc jo'itiei.1 toicetcr., hypocrites, liars, teuundu-k, knavis and thieves, wlo arc ururjifg tie Government, defiling ihe It uij 1c of our liberties, and poisoning by their shame less corruptions, the very life bleiod of the American Republic in the noon day of the nineteenth century, ai;d who, having uot before their ryes the (a-r of God or the, welfare of nan. but beinr hiitid by the devil and I eel in by his ligions, have been and are guilty of olitical ar-on, fraud, mini presentations, deceit, forgery, bribery, robbery, rapice and murder. assist us to change this accursed coiiu pt iidniinif tmtien, and then and not uutd then shall the ecple have peace 'sweet, permanent, la.-tinp peace. Hurrah for Greeley, Temperance and equal flights ! Snow Your II.vnd.-Io the Giantites and their ptcss in Oregon endorse the land subsidy plunk iu the Philadelphia Platform ? Po they endorse the four teenth plank which declares in favor of womau sufiarge? Po they endorse that which declares, that the people In the aggregate in this country, erected and established the State as well as Federal government ? Show your band gentle man, you have never yet spoken on this subject, and the people arc woudeiing why. ",,, Still another. The bill presented by Mr. Corwiu, ostensibly for the pur pose of extending the elective franchise to women,is a grand humbug ; if passed and signed by tho Governor to day, it would confer no additional rights upon women; it is draw u in such a manucr U8 to be absolutely unconstitutional and void, aud at best only propc ses to receive not count, the votes of women. Let the tried friends of equal rights look out for these humbugs, for they will come (hick aud fust during the session. Blood Will Tell,--As we expected Holladay wou tho Senatorial contest. Bully for Ben 1 If he had by his edict compollcd thorn to voto for himself instead of his tool, wo should have been better satisfied. This however gives the State to tho Liberal Republicans in November. Hurrah for Greeley! FORTLANDIIUSI NESS DIRECTORY Published by L.
