Bol, Wheeler, United States Marshal . of Montana, showed us a letter on Wednesday evening, which he had re .ceived from Robert Hereford, late Assessor at Helena, and now interpreter for the Bannocks at the Crow Agency, on the Yellowstone, giving an account of the recovery of a white girl from the Bannock Indians, after a captivity ; fit eight years. The letter is dated Jan. 5th. It appears that two men Tilf'ord Kutch and Thomas Colter, had arrived At the Yellowstone, under the authority of Col. Wham, commandant of some one of the eastern forts to search for the girl who was captured by the Ban nocks on the Raft river in 1S62. Here ford accompanied them to the Bannock ' ,camp, where the girl was found. Her came is Mclntyre. She is fourteen years old, small of her age, haa light hair, and is tanned by the sun and atorm until she looks like a quarter ; breed, which the Indians claim she is. She expressed a desire to go with the white men to her home, and was taken to the interpreter's house." Ten Day, Tayee, Bannock chiefs, were surprised at the demand of their captive, but, on representation of facts, yielded her up, and in a few days she will be sent jbome. , This is all the writer statesper haps all he knew of the circumstances. , But io this web of official statements, what, a woof ot romance, of horror and anguish may be woven.
