rytRl'&m COUNTY OPF5oiATPAPERr:r PALLAS, SATURDAY; APRIL 2. A Husband's Commandments. 4 . r t ' ..- 1 I am thy husband j'tbou slialt have no other husband bat me, whom Jhou dit.vow to lovej hopor and obey; for I saved- thco from old maidism, and .rescued thee from tho terror of single :blossedness. ' fV 2 Thou shall not look upon any other man to love or admire him; for T, thy husband, am a jealous husband, Twho will visit the sins of the wife unon her followers; therefore keep thou .jaiuuuny iu my marriage vow. .3r-Thou'shalt not backbite thy hus band, nor f?peak lightly of ,v him ; .neither shalt thou expose his faults to .thy neighbor, lest he should hear it, ,and punish thy perfidy by a depriva tion of sundry items, such as bonnets, dresses, etc 4 -Remember the seventh day to jlcfcp.it .free from unnecessary labor ; for ttheto ;aro six days in which to do ,i by work. Thou shalt have thy house ,clcan and tidy by four o'clock on Sat urday afternoon ; and there shall be no washing of children or baking after that hour. Thou shale do thy market ,ing alone, lest in the company of other vqmen thou tmyest ribbons for thyself instead ,of cigars for thy husband. 6 Honor thy husband's fathcjnd another ; and let not thy thoughts wan der selfishly towardthcir cupboards .and pockets whilst so doing. G---Thoq shalt not box thy children's jears, not thump them for plundering the sugar pot, or running away with jthe pastry or jam ; for a hungry stom iich knows no law, save cut and run. 7 Thou shaft not listen to flattery nor accept gifts or tiinkets from any jrian save thy husband, who csteemeth ,womai)'s purity her greatest ornament. 8 Thou shalt not rifle thy husband's .pockets for money when he is asleep; either shalt thou read fny letters thou znayest find therein ; for it is his busi iiesa to look after his own affairs, and thy business is to let his alone ask no questions, but believe 9 Thou shalt conceal nothing from .thy husband ; always speak tho truth, and make no false representation qf the state of thy pantry and purse, for thy 'husband abhorreth petty larceny in the domestic department, which shall be punished by. closing the ex chequer until such financial affairs aro aboyshed. 10 Thou shalt not covet thy neigh bors house; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's furniture, nor her dress, nor her caps, nor anything that is her's; .and when thon gocst out with thy hus band, thou shalt not wear a crinoline, nor any - other dangerous machine likely to come in contact with his shins. ,11 Look for no jewelry from thy husband on tho anniversary of thy .wedding; for it is written "Blessed are they that expect nothing, for they thall not be disappointed' South American Emigration Scheme On the 10th inst., allusion was made in these columns respecting a proposed scheme of emigration to Buenos A.yres. JSince then we have seen and con versed with Sir. A. S. Mercer, the prime mover in the enterprise, and learn from him that it is proposed to organize a stock company of eight men, who will put in $500 each, with which to purchase a cargo of lumber for the Rio do la. Plata, and take passage in ihcvessel carrying out tho lumber for Buenos Ayrcs. That being a good market for tho lumber, it fs expected that the cargo will eelWbr-a sufficient sum to pay the charter, which will re, fund the eight men their money mak ing their passage free. Tho Buenos Ayrean Government is a Republic mod eled after our own, and is well sustain ed by its people ; free from the flutter ings and rebellions so common in most of the South American Republics. The political horizon has not ieen dis turbed since 1845. Liberal induce-are-held out to emigrants (especially American) in the way of land grants and Government protection. Situated between thirty and forty south latitude, the climate is free from extreme heat and entirely without freezing cold. As to healthfullness of climate, it is ad mitted by all travelers and writers who hava visited there, that the country bordering on tho lower La Plata, is the freest from "malaria and all billious dis eases of any in tho Western continent. Being destitute in a great measure of timber, tho country presents one vast extent of open grazing lands, called the pampas of Buenos Ay re?, and rich alluvial lands, estimated by Brecken ridge, in 1810, to bo "capable of con taining at leasjfc one hundred millions of souls." The pampas are less fertile thanthe other- portions, yet covered with a denso growth of nutritious grass and particularly adapted to stock raising as neither food nor shelter Jiave eyer to bo provided. Wool grow ing is found to be most profitable, as New York and tho cities pf the Old World afford a constant markot, and tho wonderful degree of increaso makes this tho leading pursuit. All the pains, 'grasses, vegetables and fruits that' abound in temperate and semi tropical climates, flourish , there.' Tho geographical position is central, and tho gnKtt rivers offer suitable means of interior transportation. Thousands of ships, arrivQ annually, carrying cargoes of wool and hides away and bringing lumber and merchandise. Millions of acres of land lie in a state of nature, and tho influx of an activo population is all that is required to develop the country into a republic of first class proportions. .We can discover no good reason for anybody to leave Oregon. Certainly we can see inducements for an emigration hence to Buenos Ayres, because this region only needs what is claimed for South America, to make it a much better country, but if any per son wishes to go farther, this scheme of Mr. Mercer's presents itself to them. In a noto to us yesterday, Mr. Mercer says : "We have six men ready to join with us in the enterprise, and if two more will volunteer, wo are off, as a suitable vessel can be had to sail early in May. Our purpose is to have a few good families, who will band together for the purpose of keeping up homo instiiutions, scttlo in the interior and enter upon the stock "business. After the party is made up, good men who will join us, can have a passage for 150. Orcgonian. An irritable man went to visit a sick friend, and asked him concerning his health. The patient was bo ill that he could not reply; whereupon the other,in a rage said : "I hope that I may soon fall sick, and then I will not answer you whenyon visit me." A poor fellow now under arrest in New Hampshire for setting fire to two barns, said he was hired to do the work for $3 by a wealthy fartner who had a quarrel with his neighbor, and that the wealthy farmer, after all, pakl him but 2,85.
