Yesterday the Oregon Pacific tiVin from the front came in late without the accustomed coaches, the engine having been cut oil' from them by a washout. The train pulls up to Green Basin, or HalsU-ad, on Saturday night and the engine returns to Niagara, two miles this side, where I here is a telegraph olliee and lies until Monday mornb'g, when it returns to i Instead at 7 :."() a. m., and hitching on the coaches starts on it trip to Albany and return. Some fine Sunday niuht, as near as can be learned, a water spied of a s'nini hurst in the hills just above Niagara and the mass of water ondng de.vri tore out four or live lengths of ttack and wa-diml enough debris into the North Santiasn to almt lam the stream for a short t.ms. This cut oil' the engine from the coaches, and the only rvc-iirs was to hitch on a box car stand ing on the side track at Niar.tr an. I mai.e ll.e trip ia it, which was done. TitU STURM. It Plill Cuntlsne! Wi'h Unafcttd The furious wind and rain stonu w hich h is been raging for several days continues to keep tip its work. The wind, though not as high as it has been, continues on un usual force and the rain its steady downpour. Fortunate'' the cold in the mountains has checked the flow of water, and a full of four feet is re-nort-.'il in the Willamette at Eu gene. At this place the river has been slowly raising. Reports of damages and delavs are coming in. Last evening there was no Albany local train fro n Portland, and also no through overland, the hisi train from Portland being the Roseburg mail, at noon. The cause is reported to be the washout of a bridge near Wood runi. The wires were down so that very hieag'. r reiioits could be pro cured. The storms seems to be univer sal over th: coast, and delays and damages arisiug from interrupted transportation can be looked for. At ten o'clock Inst night the overland from San Francisco was four hours late, with prospects of being still farther delayed. The washout at Wood burn was the second till north of the place, caused by an inadequate cuivert. liuu Over a Cow. The Rostburg train yesterday, j;ist below Jctlerson, ran over a cow, the engine, baggage car and emoking car, leaving htir a totally mashed up mass of tly-h and bones. The Florence West savs that last Wednesday as three men, strangers, were walking up the beach from Gardiner and when aliout three miles this side of that place they found a man lying dead on the beach near the edge of the breakers. They drew him upon the sand out of the water, and in so doing discovered that both bis arms had been broken. He was a young man, heavy built, and had a 1 ght sandy mustache. He was dressed in a sailor suit and from this and other appearances they concluded he was an o'licer from some boat which h.vl prcbably gone to pieces during the last storm. About half a mile further up the beach they found a rosv I oat which had recently come ashoie, and to which were tied a pair of shoes and an oil cloth. It is al together probable that the sailor and boat are both otl' tiie schooner Gcneial Butler which was found em! oil' cape Arago. Her mate and four sailors have not been beard trom since the storm, hence the conclusion. The body was taken to Gardiner and there interred. A DFLAYED ITEM.
