Ilia Job Wart Hard, A mail carrier's occupation is not alwavs a flowerv path of easf , as will be seen by the Astorian's account of how that individual wended his wav into Astoria re cently: Mail Carrier Lewis bad a pleasant little picnic of his own yesterday. Everybody knows what a nice day it was. Lewis started from Mishawaka at 0 a. m., and after the first few miles had to abandon his horse. The road was filled with fallen trees, seme of which it waa easier to crawl under, than to get over, but such style of locomotion is discouraging to a horse. At last Lewis reached the Walluski with his mailbags, anil found the ferry boat three feet under water. It took him an hour to get across the V alluski. He got to the Astorian office at 11 o'clock last night, alter his thirty- eight-mile trip. He says it is next to impossible to get along. and that the roads are almost imoassible. Everything in the way of a stream is bank full ; the nun' is everywhere, and the wind has blown the trees down thick along the road. He starts back at t o'clock this morning, and earns his money about as hard as any one can. Oregon Crops.
