Acting Secretary Spaulding says the treasury departm nt would take no a-jtion in regard to the case of the two Clrnamen released by Judgu Deady, of Oregon, on habeas corpus proceedings. J udge Deady h -Id the departure of there men as cooka on a foieign vessel to a for eign pert, and their return on the same vessel, was not departure f ro:n the United States within the meaning of the Chinese exclusion act. Property Attached for Debts. New York. Oct. 22. :An attach ment for f2J,o2o lias been issued against the line of the Columbia Borax Company, of Ne vada, and the company's property in this city. The attachment is secured by Gruber & Landon, and is in a suit by Marcus A. Josephi. who claims $7,300 as money loaned the company, and the remainder as unpaid salary due him as its treasurer. Josephi, besides being treasurer of the Columbus Borax Company, was secretary and treas urer of the Chemical" Importing aud Manufacturing Company. E. C. Calm was president of both. There was a dispute between Calm and Josephi, which resulted in the removal of the latter from his otlices. Hence the suit. Gang ef Train Robbers Captured Kiv tvmvm Tex . Oct. 22 D. Ludlow, Pacific express agent in this city, received a dispatch last uiht from the agent at Jangley's, announcing that the capture of four of the Southern Pacific train robbers took place at the i V ranch on the line of Oak creek, about 100 miles north of Langley, Friday hrt. The capture was made hy Captain Jones ana a ixisse. BLOODY MEXICAN:, Tbey Indulge In a Regular Old Fashioned Uall Fight. City om. Mexico, Oct. 22. A recent revival of bull fighting in the Citv of Mexico was in the name of charity. A committee of ladies of this capital, with Mrs. Diaz, wife of the president, at the head. organized the show for the benefit of the sutlerers from the flood j in Spain, it was one of the greatest spectacles of the Mexican national sport ever witnessed. It is es'i mateu mat lz.uuu persons were present. Nine bulls of celebrated breed were killed, amid thebiavos of the spectators. The animals were trained for the occasion, aud many of the matadores had narrow escapes. President Diaz and party left the ring during the ki.ling of the eighth bull. The bandenllos stuck into the bulls were, after the light, sold by peddlers at extravagant puces. Ihis was one of the great est tights Mexico has seen for years, and the amount received for admission fees is supposed to reach f'J),000. WANTS DA!UAOK8. For Ills lielng Slapped In the Face. San Salvador, Oct. 22. Dr. Harmon Prowe, a well known ami highly esteemed Get man physician who has resi led in this country for the last six years, and who was presented by the German govern ment i' h a gold medal for his distinguished services duriig the late war, has put iu a claim against Salvador for 50 1,000 p;sos, or 87',(XlO, for an indignity to which he was publicly subjected. He has laid the claim before the im perial minister t Guatemala, stating that upon the payment of the indemnity money he will give one-half of it to a hospital in this city and the other half to a hos pital at Santa Tecia. He states that General Ruiz Rastor, a Spair'ard in the Salvadorian ser vice, slapped his face in a hotel, while Rastor's threi a ljutan's and four pol:c;.meii held him so he could not defend himself. Dr. Prowe also demands that General Ruiz be dismissed from the Salva dorian army. It is leported here that the Italian, Amhro-ini, who was com mander of the only war vessel be longing to San Salvador, the little steamer Criscatlan, has abandoned his post and gone to San Fran cisco, carrying away 10,0 0 pesos tf government money, which hid been destined to pay for repairs to the steamer. ALMOST BLOODSHED. A Riot Between Farmers and a Sheriff I'vsse. Jounstown, Pa., Oct. 22. The Childs and Lehman factions' dis pute over the light to operate a saw mill on a tract of timber land resulted in what, for a time, threatened to be a serious riot. Tne sheriff of Cambria county, who was engaged by Childs, pro ceeded to the disputed property yesterJay.and ordered his deputies to take possession of the mill. He was met by forty farmers armed with revolvers, guns, pitchforks and every conceivable weapon. The first man to cross the line was knocked senseless, and the order was then given to the farmers to fire. Before this move, however, the sheriff's little party retreated, and the farmers are now in pos session. The Childs faction will now have recourse to law. In the meantime the farmeis wiil guard the property, and threaten blood- si ed it interfered with. Gone With the Man She Loved. New York, Ojt. 22. A Sun special from Pittsburg, Pa , says: Mrs. Mabel Power, wife of Edward T. Power, a freigl.t conduc or on the Pennsylvania railroad, eloped last Sunday with John Stein way, a brakeman on Power's train. Steinway has been employed on the road about two years and biarded with the Power family. On Saturday night, Mrs. Power said she was going to see her parents in Johnstown. Steinway was to accompany her. Tuesday Mr. Power received a letter from his wife, maileJ at Alto nia, and containing these words: "Dear John, you are too old for me; I have gone with the man 1 loved." Power is 58 years old, his wife 22, and Steinway is said to be 20. Power says his wife can stay away. He will make no effort to bring her back, neither will he receive her should she return. The other let- ten were of no present importsnce Barley then asked for letters from Mr. or Mrs. Searles to Hubbard A Stillman. They were read and showed deposits to Mrs. Bevies credit in banks to the amount of (240,00 J in three months. Tite last telegram announced Mrs. Searles' death. Settlers and Indians Qaarrellag. Sydney. Colo.. Oc . 22. Word was received here last night that five companies of United States in fantry and cavalry from Fort Rus sell are uaking a forced march to the scene of the Ute outbreak of years ago, to protect the rights of the eettlers against tne encroach ments of the savages. At the time of the former trouble the Iu- bans turned their ponies into the pastures of the settlers and com mitted many othet depredations. This year the settlers determined that the Indians should rot hunt oil' the reservation, and nave banded thetnsdves together to keep the Utes within bounds. It seems that the Indians hare now started on anotiier bunting expe dition, and it is believed there may be conflicts with the whites. To prevent this, five companies have been dispaicbed to the scene. Wine Merchant Cndleted, San Francisco. Oct. 22. Bam berger & Kempfor, wine mer chants, were arraigned before Judge Wallace this morning on an indictment found some days ago by rrand jnry, charging them with having obtained money by false pretenses. Their couueil 'asked for further time in which to plead, as he wished to fully inform him self concerning the allegations st t forth in the indictments. On motion o the district attorney they weie allowed to plead not guilty with the right to withdraw the plea and make another wiihin a week. Woolen Mills Burned. Pn-rsr iEi.D. Mass., Oct. 22. The town of Glendale, fifteen miles south of this city, received a heavy blow last night when the Glenda.e woolen mills, the only indnstry of lhe place, was burned. The mill was a five story stone building. The total loss is about $2(0,000, fully insured. Took His Own Life. St. Pail, Miun., Oct. 22 Dr. Charles A. Stein, a veterinary surgeon of Custer's regiment, the seventh cavalry, was found dead iu his house Tuesday. A partly empty vial ef prussic acid showed that he had taken his own life.
