Brutally Mutilated by a Feroclokt Dog Tbe Child's Motheriid a HelgUbor Fearfully Bitten. Montreal, Aug. 2C The little son of Homer Frechet, of 108 St. Hubert street, ol this city, was bitten to death by a ferocious dog last night. When the frantic mother of the child endeavored to drive the dog away, he attacked her, and only desisted when cut to pieces by a neighbor who came to her assistance. Air. fret-net, who is an niuateur fanuier.recently purchased three dogs, one of w hich was a cross between a hound and a bull dog. The latter was con sidered peaceable, and gave no signs of being dangerous. Miortly alter 7 o clock last night, while .Mrs. rreoliet was entertain ing a visitor, she heard her 4-vear old son, who was playing in the yard, scream. Kushing to the window, she was horrified to see the dog attacking the child, and tearing great pieces of flesh from its body. With all the heroism oi a mother's daring, the woman flew to the rescue. The bight she saw was a horrible one. Tlie boar Js of the yrd were covered w ith blood, while pieces of flesh were scatter ed around. Though fainting, sne attacked the infuriated beast, and a terrific struggle ensued. It was an unarmed woman against a demon, and she was fast being overcome by the brute, when J. It. Masse, who resided near by, came to her assistance. At this moment the woman fainted and the dog turned his attention to the new intruder. Another des perate battle ensued, but Masse was armed with a knife which he wielded to good purpose, but the log having secured a grip on the man never let go till its head was nearly severed from its body. Medical assistance was summoned hut the child was beyond all human aid and soon expired. The face was unrecognizable, while over a do.en pieces of flesh had been torn from the body. The injuries sus tained by Mis. Frechet and Masse, while serious, ate not fatal. 'ilr.s si;,- M K'Nir UNI'KKWK U.
