Ou the question of the bridge fur Albany there should be but one opinion, and that should be for a bridge first, last and all the time. We are not disposed to be cap tious, nor do we wish to unduly harp upon the bridge subject. But the present and future prospects of the city, as far as this year is con cerned, depend entirely upon the energy and promptness with which the bridge work is pushed. This can be seen by everyone who will look suuarely at the subject. The present situation, with the plans adopted and the contract practically let, is certainly as favorable as could be asked for, and now let every one drop tkeir differences and push for the com pletion of the work. Past experience in other cities plainly shows that even after actual work has been commenced, retarding measures adopted by in dividuals have handicapped the work and delayed the completion for years. The question comes home to every citizen of Albauy then, will you put an incubus upon the thrift of the city, that will help to throt tle us business and turn awav from its doors the artisan, the tinit y citzen and the ttirnng ousiness man, and cause the dia heartening legend, "'to let," to hang upon the ou er walls ol busi ness houses and dwellings in count less numbers, or will y.n help ke p the good name already acquired and the progress already under way in good and favorable condi tion, and our growth and prosper! ly an asaure'i tact. Xhe qu-.-s ion is simple and straight, and comes home to every individual. Tl . . i . . mere certainly can be but one answer and that is that every indi vidual now works in hearty good earnest to push the bru.Ke through to completion at the earnest prac tical moment. Next Week's Theater. The popular Harry F. Keene's dramatic company will play at the Albany opera house on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, July Hi, 17 and 18. Tne plays put on will be the great masterpiece of Gillette's, "Held by the Enemy," a war drama of thrilling intereot, tspecially so to G. A. R. men and and old soldiers; "4!," Joaquin Miller's wonderful production, and "The S-ilver King." The tlirae pieces will give our citizens spice and variety, and cannot help drawing full houses and giving perfect satisfaction. A Delightful Party. Linn County In It, At the Julv meeting of the Port land Speed Association, Linn eonnty came out with playing hmors foi one o' its hot sea made the best time and lowered the stallion record from 2:1'4 to 2 ;23' 4. The hoise was Dclco bred oy McKnight Bron.,of thiseounty, its datn being one of the marefc drowned from the ferry boat in the Williainette at lira city last summer. The account of the rare says: The field in the 2:27 trot was pronounced the best, as a whole, ever started at City View end the result was most gratifying; for Delco has thus beaten Bloudle's stallion record of 2:M'.j' by a second and a quarter, an adt'eu another star to APamont's crow n. His sire, Oneco is a son of Altamont and his dam was in no nay remarkable. The race between Delco and Altao was throughout exciting, as they lap ped nearly all the way around, sometimes one, sometimes the other in the lead, and each finish was greeted with a wild burst of applause. Linn county horses are winning fame and renown. It is a matter of congratulation that Oneco, the sire of Pelco, the property of McKnights Bros., will remain one of the most valuable acquisitions of our country. Proper Action. Since the last state fair several complaints have been made that several rrticles of work had been either lost or stolen. This has caused considerable dissatisfaction and perhaps deterred several from maKingexnious inisyear. lino turns out that all the articles in question had been carefully packed away as property unclaim ed after the fair. Several have already been returned to the owners, and the ballance are in the hands of the secretary, await ing the owners. Marshal Savage has the honor of hunting up these lost items and restoring them to the proper persons. This year it is understood, that everv article placed on exhibition will be re ceipted for and only returned on surrender of receipt. With this assurance many competitors will be encouraged to come in the present year. Journal. Killed liy a Wagou.
