An exceedingly curious case has just cjine to light at the hospital cf .-an Antonio. A lew days ago an old woman pre sented herself at that institution to lie treated for some complaint She was admitted without any de lay and was entered in the books under the name of Opportune Hignol, while her ; i;e was recorJed a t 72. He lia I never worn man's clothing hut once, and that was on the day he was 17 years old. During the pat twenty years, however, he had lnen most of the time a femme de ch?mbre. On being questioned as to his motive l r this peculiar proceed ing, Signo! replied that it was all the fault oi his stepmother, who had forced him into petticoats ever since the timo he was short coated, and who had only provided him with proper clothes of his sex on the occasion mentioned. The day after the examination, how ever, she taok away his masculine attire and compelled him to re sume his petticoais. WATCH I NO ANA IICII ISTS. eriiian Detectives CRinpIng; On Their Trail In London. London, June 2!. A IWIin dis patch says that three of the lead ing detectives in the Prussian gov ernment service have gone to Ixtndon to keep an eye on the exiled anarchists and socialists i 1 that city duiing the c lining visit of the kaiser, and to point out to the P.nglirih police any who are likely to be troublesome. The mission oi the detectives is to be merely preiautionaiy, and the government has received no infor mation that would justify fear of any intendeJ insult or injury to the kais:er; nevettheless it is known to the police that the lier uian colony in London includes a number of individuals who are wholly anarchical in their tenden cies and, it is believed capable of abusing the hospitality of Kng land to their hatred of existing in stitutions. The (ierman anarch ist's are Faid to have a secret club in the east of Loudon, in which the most dangerous doctrines are discussed and actions against other governments urged, ii not determined upon; no overt a-.-t has, however, yet been proven against these people. The Russian nihilists also have headquarters in London, where conspiracies are hatched and the means provided to carry them out. There is a strong undercurrent of sympathy with nihilists which does not exut for the German anarchists, and the latter would do well if they value their case not to provoke public attention during the imperial visit.
