The AHany & Axtorln i:ilnail. The people will presently begin to see that the Albany A: Astoria Railway Co., while it indulges in no idle talk, is going steadily for ward with its plans for the con struction of the road from Albany to the city by the sva. Our dis patches this morning bring the news that the I'nited States senate lias passed a bill authorizing the company to bridge the Willamette rivei at this city and to construct other bridges and establish them as post roads, which means to make it a mail route. The Oregon legislature has also passed a simi lar bill. Albany's railroad out look is assuming healthy propor tions. Still MUmIiik. The dispatch received from Salem relating to the finding of youDg Tucker, the hunter who was lost in the mountains aliove tiatesville, proves to have been a mistake. Authentic information w aa received in this city last even ing that the unfortunate young man is still missing, and that his frionda have given him up for lost. There is about four feet of snow in the mountain? up there ami the I. hn lipen aluuulontvl for tlit present. Some people believe that be has been the victim of foul play and say that they believe when be is found, if at all, it will be with a bullet in his head, but no grounds are assigned for this lelief. I.oxt His .Vim!. A religious revival has been in progsess at Heppner of late, and uiuong those who were converted was an elderly pioneer settler, who has been a little ahead of civiliza tion along the frontier nearly all Ids life. The etteet has been dis astrous, as the old man came rid ing! into Heppner a day or two since, telling the citizens that he had left his farm forever, and was going to preach the gospel, lie imagines that he is the prophet Elijah INTERVIEW WIT.'I D. B. KOSrDITH Ho E turns fioro the East avdT&'ks Aboat Ianiir.i'.ion'and the O.-.'gan PaciSc Railriad. Mr. D. P. Monteith retained yesterday from a two month's trip Ihrough tLe Fast. He was seen on his rtturn by a 1 1 ki:ai.i repot ter who interrogated him as to tne probable immigration to Oregon during the spring and summer of 1S!I, and what the people of the Fast say and think of On-emi, Mr. j Monteith went to New York, Chicago, St. l,ouis, Washington, j and in fact all over the Hist, and returned through New Mexico and the southern ron.'e via San Fran cisco, which enabled him to obtain j authentic information about immi gration to regon. "I saw and talked with many people about Oregon," he said", "and I answered many inquiries concerning the Willamette Valley. The stringency iu the money mar ket has caused dull times llir- ugii out the Fast, and men of smuli means cannot now 9--U out. Hun dreds of them are waiting until they can sell t come to Oregon. My advice was that men without means would not lunl ioiuiiies awaiting them here, but that as a lieid for piolitahle invis in nl oi capital no country oll'cied t-uch inducements as the WiJaiiictle Valley, bdh in agricultural pur suits ami manufacturing indns' lit s as well as mining in the districts adjoining. The bulk of the immi gration this year will be men of means who are coming wist to find a moie profitable tit Id o! investment. 1 saw many men who visited this state last summer and are now arranging to !o, ad here. After seeing Oregon they said they were only smry that they had not come before. "1 think the Oregon legislature has made a mistake,'' he slid, "in not appropriating more than :f "". 000 tor an exhibit ;.t the World's Fair. The states of the union will all be represented with mag nificent displaj s, and I er matcii less resources ought to have a creditable exhibit, enough at least to give the state her proper rank among tie! progressive Pacific Coast stales at the big exposition.'' "Did you see Col. Hogg, while in New York," was asked, "ami did he give you any information ahoat the Oregon Pacific i ail road V" "Yes, I saw him, and talked with him about the begun Pacific, but the coiivers itiou was of a con fidential nature, and I am ie t at liU-rty to make public what he said about the road. "hiil he give you any ein-oiinig ing news about the lesiimption oi work on the road this summer?"' "Do not (jiiote me assaying any thing about what Col. Hogg siid, for I am nor, at i I ; r f v to do so. Mr Hogg did imt siywlienhe expected to visit Oregon. I think tiie outlook for the to.id is wry favorable, and the work will .o forward in good time. I bavi heard th it the ( ''cgi n Pacili : ( (in fractors say that they have oilers to commence work ag.iin this soring, but 1 i!o not know whether it is idle talk or no'. The company has com uwm eu the work of pit; t ing the road in thorough repair from Albany to the eastern end of the track, which looks very much as ii work was to be resumed this season.'" "Then you think tnat woik on the road w ill move fonvaid this year,'" he a.-ktd. '"I ehou'd lujie so,'' was the re ply. ,"lid you got caugh' in any of the Fastern blizards?"' "The coldest went her I found was at Kansas City, where the thermometer stood ten degrees be low zero. It made an Orcgoiiian button up bis overcoat and keep close to the stove." "Yes. I am g'ad to get home. Oregon is a gr-at state I I. best of them all, and the people of the Fast are j n-t beginning to find it out. The result will not be un profitable to thi-s state, as will be v itnessed in the next few years in her growth and prosperity and the deyelopm -nt of her unlimited re sources.'' As soon a: the weather will permit the track will be put in first class condition and training will commence eailviu tiie spring. A Montana tia in r is now here on ti ial. A Narniw (.iingu Wiec!. Wi dnesday afierncon there was another train wreck on the old narrow gauge. This time it was just north of Scio. The rails spread :.nd threw four cars of a mixed passenger ami freight train oti' the track. No one was injured in the accident, and niter a delay of three or four boms the tram was righted and pun-ceded on to Wotxlbiun.
