The people will presently begin
to see that the Albany A: Astoria
Railway Co., while it indulges in
no idle talk, is going steadily for
ward with its plans for the con
struction of the road from Albany
to the city by the sva. Our dis
patches this morning bring the
news that the I'nited States senate
lias passed a bill authorizing the
company to bridge the Willamette
rivei at this city and to construct
other bridges and establish them
as post roads, which means to
make it a mail route. The Oregon
legislature has also passed a simi
lar bill. Albany's railroad out
look is assuming healthy propor
tions. Still MUmIiik.
The dispatch received from
Salem relating to the finding of
youDg Tucker, the hunter who
was lost in the mountains aliove
tiatesville, proves to have been a
mistake. Authentic information
w aa received in this city last even
ing that the unfortunate young
man is still missing, and that his
frionda have given him up for lost.
There is about four feet of snow
in the mountain? up there ami the
I. hn lipen aluuulontvl for tlit
present. Some people believe
that be has been the victim of
foul play and say that they believe
when be is found, if at all, it will
be with a bullet in his head, but
no grounds are assigned for this
lelief.

Mr. D. P. Monteith retained
yesterday from a two month's trip

on his rtturn by a 1 1 ki:ai.i repot ter

probable immigration to Oregon
during the spring and summer of
1S!I, and what the people of the
Fast say and think of On-emi, Mr. j
Monteith went to New York,
Chicago, St. l,ouis, Washington, j
and in fact all over the Hist, and
returned through New Mexico and
the southern ron.'e via San Fran

authentic information about immi

"I saw and talked with many
people about Oregon," he said",
"and I answered many inquiries
concerning the Willamette Valley.
The stringency iu the money mar
ket has caused dull times llir- ugii

they can sell t come to Oregon.
My advice was that men without

find a moie profitable tit Id o!
investment. 1 saw many men
who visited this state last summer
and are now arranging to !o, ad
here. After seeing Oregon they
said they were only smry that
they had not come before.
"1 think the Oregon legislature
has made a mistake,'' he slid, "in

"Did you see Col. Hogg, while
in New York," was asked, "ami
did he give you any information

"Yes, I saw him, and talked
with him about the begun Pacific,

"Do not (jiiote me assaying any
