Aiken tried to explain that he had done nothing to be. ashamed of, and repotted that the criminal intimacy was nothing but gossip. Harris then told Aiken to prepare himself. Iledrewfrom his pocket a long-blad-.-d knife and made a desperate plunge at Aiken, but Aiken was on his guard, and before Harris could make a second ell'ort Aiken thrust his kuile up io the handle in Harris' heart. Jan. 10. The Star says from the general tenor o'" c jnveisation among the silver ma jority in the senate, it was appar ent that they regarded their victory entirely due to the force of the irresistible popular demand which thev believe will make. itself felt in a similar manner in the hoii'-e and ultimately in the executive mansion. More cam ima and conservative friend of silver are inclined to think that the action ef the senate will prove to have been a fortunate thing lor the country. It may serve to san -ly the strong craving of the West and South for financial re lief, and thus prevent a recourse to more extieme measures in the way of sub-treasury schemes of fiat money which are mediated so seriou-ly by the Farmers' Alliance and rural agitators in the interior of the couirrv. The defeated party takes the matter calm'v. but rather gloomily. TIIE INDIANS. lliey Invite the Soldiers Feast of Boiled Dor. to a HUT TUKV KKI.T TIIKIK ;l XS Ueoaral Mile?
