There is a probability that the Union Pacilic will again put on trains 7 and 8 on the overland express. Since they were discontinued on the 1st inst. the fast mail has been unable to handle the travel, and No. I, west bound, has not bren able to haul the cars and it has been in two sections. The an nual report of the board of control of the Utah com mission o! regis tration and elect ons, of th - Indus trial Christian Home Association of Utah, says the fewness of the inmates of the home is, in the opinion of the commission, due to the restraining liitluence ot the Mormon church and leinale pride, which interprets the position of the institution as an evidence of legraded pauperism. The com mission is also of the opinion that if congress would make an appro priation to enable them to pur chase the necessary fixtures and appliances, such as sewing ma chines, etc , and employ compe tent teachers, that the industrial tepartineuts could he opened in which girls could be taught self supporting voca'ions. The Switchmen Strike. OtiDKN, Utah, Dec. 9. Several days ago the Union Pacific dis charged three men from the night force of switchnivn in the yards of this city. The result was a strike f the men. List Suipiav a com mittt-e visited the general manager but rect-iving no satisfaction, the ntire force of union and nonun ion men have now gone out. More Care Coining. New York, Dec. 9. Jay Gould said in reference o the rumors about the Union Pacilic floating lebt that the company had to pay $;(X),U00 for new equipment, and then the people wanted their money : that all will be arranged. The company receives 130 new locomotives and between 4000 and iOOO freight care, which will enable the road to more than move thu heat in the Northwest, which could not be handled on account of the scarcity i cars. Fell 150 Feet. iopkka, iac I'eega:', an iron workman on the dome of the statehouse, fell 150 feet this morn ing and was instantly killed. He struck an iron and was frightfully mangled, Deegan is the ninth iron workman killed within the last five years while at work on the statehouse. Killed In a Saloon. Denver, Col., Dee. 9. John P. Clow, an ex-pugilist, was shot and killed in a saloon this morning by Frank C. Marshall. The men hail some trouble over a horse, which ('low claimed Marshall had sold him. I M PORTA NT CONSULTATION. All are close mouthed as to the object of their visit, and declare that it is not for the pur pose of booming Alger for presi dent. Fassett d'opped the infor mation that Plat, Clarkson and himself had interests in Taeoma and were consulting about them. Piatt is a member of the commis sion to establish a drydock on Paget Sound, and both he and Clarkson have vitited the coast, carefully studying the country. If the si'e for a drydo k has been tixed no information can lie se cured, but many believe that the Tacoma site is favored. WEATHER PREDICTIONS. A Big Storm on the Tapia for Oregon and Washington. Sax Francisco, Dec. 9. The following bulletin was issued by the signal service office at six o'c'ock to-night. "Following close ly in the wake of the cyclone, first noted in the reports from this office on Sund.y last, another storm center has appeared ofl Vancouver island. This second li-turbance has caused a decided tall in the barometer over Wash ington and Oregon, and extending southward into Northern Cali fornia and Nevada.
