The St teaman says: As soon as the river rises a few feet it is the purpose of the Oregon City paper mill to float down near the mouth of the Luckiamute several million feet rf cottonwood and balm logs which have been cut during the summer and are now piled up along the bank9 of the river awaiting the pleasure of the rains. It will probably be ten days or two weeks with frequent raiiis ad interim before these logs can pass below. The Salem bridge false work will be out of the way and ready to them, after which the only impediment will be the scircity of water. Ladles Aid Society Committee. Messrs. Staples &Co.,coin&leed their grading contract on the Ore gonian railway extnesion last week. Contracts aie now being made for baroed wire with which to build about thirteen miles of fence along each side of the new road. Woman Convicted or Harder. London, Dec. .3. The tiial of Mrs. Nellie Pearcy for the murder of Mrs. Hogg, wife of a 1ondon porter, and her child, resulted to day in a sentence of death. The murder was committed l)ctober24, when Mrs. Hogi visited Mis. Pearcy to remonstrate againt the formei's intimacy with Hogg.
