The St teaman says: As soon
as the river rises a few feet it is the
purpose of the Oregon City paper
mill to float down near the mouth
of the Luckiamute several million
feet rf cottonwood and balm logs
which have been cut during the
summer and are now piled up along
the bank9 of the river awaiting the
pleasure of the rains. It will
probably be ten days or two weeks
with frequent raiiis ad interim
before these logs can pass below.
The Salem bridge false work will
be out of the way and ready to
them, after which the only
impediment will be the scircity of
water.

Two timber land swindler
named Stone and Hyde were
arrested in Idaho lait week.

the Williams boys, and the collie
shepherd owned by G. 13. Haight,
the butcher, got into an altercation
at the Revere house corner and
wiped up the moisture of the
street with each other up to Con

a draw, and the contest with bare

Railroad Work.
Messrs. Staples &Co.,coin&leed
their grading contract on the Ore
gonian railway extnesion last
week. The grade is the best piece
of work in that line in the state
and the cattle guards and small
trestles now being put in are strong
and substantial, lioiug that toe
company intend to have nj cheap
toad. Contracts aie now being
made for baroed wire with which
to build about thirteen miles of
fence along each side of the new
road. The fence will he made
with three barbed wires and a
lioard on top Engene Register.

Mrs. W. T. Ellidge and her

Wash., victims of the recent wreck
came to Salem Tuesday fiom Mr.
