For payments of pen sions $133,173,036 ia appropriated and for surgeons $1,500,000, an in crease of $500,000 over the current fiscal year. Edgar Pat ton, a clerk employed in Ksberg, Bachman A Co.'s wholesale store, reported to the olice that when he went 4o the store thia evening two men, who had secreted them selves, pounced upon him and took $209 from the sife. Three Chinamen, supposed to be illegally in the United States, were arrested near Port Crescent yesterday and brought here to-day for a hearing. U. S. When the crash came the whole train ex ept the caboose bounded into the canyon, leaving the track completely clear. The engine was tinned completely over and headed exactly in the opposite direction. Every car is a wreck and wheat is rcatlered in directions. The govern ment tariff position is a proposed duty of twelve Irancs per double hundred weight on an Kinua 01 salt meat. The tariff sub-committee has made a new classifica tion, imposing a duty of thirty francs on sausages and other pre served meats and 15 fiaucs ou hams bacon and lard. Y. has made the discovery of a wonderful ore called "electric rock," w hich contains a hidden force that puzzles and astonishes all w ho si " it, and expert electricians in particular. The rock is ot a dnrk sure color and somewhat lighter in weight than sandstone. It is composed of iron, aluminium, calcium and other minerals, and particles of gold aro found sometimes, Mr. Dixon says it will generate unlimited power and give any desired amount of incandescent light. For illuminating business places and residences it would be considerably cheaper than kerosene in fact, after the build ing has been wired and the batter ies prepared the cost would be equal if not superior, to that produced by manufactured electricity. Twelve thousand people assembled to night to see and hear the Irish parliamentary delegates, Among ihe prominent figures in the audi ence was Mr, l'arnell, mother of the man still at the helm of Irish alfairs. Dillon, O'Brien, O'Con nor, Harrington, Sullivan and Gill were escorted to the platform amid wild che.;rs. Spe-iking was suspended for half an hour, during which tune contributions were received, besides a great mass of small contributions. Fifteen or twenty prominent citizens handed in amounts ranging from $10 ) to $500, after the delegates spoke. Resolutions the substance ot which is as follows, were adopted, and the meeting adjourned amid great cheering. The resolutions, which were quite lengtliv, wel come the Irish delegates, speak in eulogistic terms of their services an I pledge the assembly anew to the cause of home rule tor Irish people.
