George K. Cannon pub licly announced his endorsement of the manifesto and his recogni tion of the supremacy of the laws that had been declared constitu tional by the Supreme court of the United Stales. Tbe conference al so re-adonted the original articles uf faith, among which is this : "We believe in being subject to Kings, Presidents, rule, and mag istrates, in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law." The action taken settles the vexed question and places an ef fectual bar against polygamous marriages in Ltah. It is the most important step taken by the church for more than a quarter of a century. Four weeks ago John baueier, a notorious criminal from Montreal, charged with rape and horse stealing, broke lail at tieauharnois, Uue and escaped to the states.
