Whether there will be an advance or a decline, thats the question ; whether il will pay to hold or whether it is best to nell at once. Anything rearing upon this subject is of interest. A lead ing Boston paper sas that bread stuffs will rule much higher during the coining year now apcurs to be assured, as all reiorts from the wheat section still predict a small yield as compared with foimer years. The long season of dry weather has given the farmers an excellent opportunity for thresh ing and securing the winter wheat crop, and the laig-r proportion of it is now safely housed. Repot ts Hay that the close of threshing would include a falling otl" of the yiebl rather than an inc.ieas', which plainly shows that the shortage of he winter wheat crop was not over estimated. The spring w heat crop in the North west is largely cut, but the condi tion can be closely estimated, until threshing is over. Frost has al ready been experienced in some sections of the spring wheat belt, but it is thought that the grain is to near maturity to cause much ni p;i-' t!''ss aliout damage. The loost damage noted in spring wheat is in South Dakota, where some estimates put the yieli low as live bushels per acre crop of spring and winter wheat is now estimated as low as 414.000, 000 bushels, while tiie total visible supply is estimated at !,:.'?!, UW bushels. The etlect of this light yield is shown in the speculative markets, prices in Chicago show ing an advance of about lit cents ir bushel over a year ago, with other cereals in about the same proportion. That much of this ad vance is due to speculation, we have no doubt, but still the short age in yield can not be forced out of sight and we may as well make up our minds that bieadstuf!s ol all description will cost more than any yearduring the past decade. The result of the high prices ru'ing in this country has Ix-en the cur tailment of Kuropean shipment to some extent. The Enuiish market has advanced in sympathy with our own, however, and ap pearances are favorable fm hn gland's takinu any surplus th.:t w e may have.
