A City of 'Guatemala dispatch says the liarrilas government has decided to exile the daughter ot ueneral LSarruudia, who attempted he lite ot Minister Mizner. A terrible street car wreck re cently took place in Cleveland. O. It was on the crossing of the "treet mad and the New York. Chicago A: St. Ixjuis railway : The crossing is on a steep grade, dovrn uvhich runs an electric street railroad line. At the tune the accident occuned a Height train was standing close t the crossing on the south track. n electric motor draw ing one car was Hpproachii.g from the south. i ne satete gates wete open and the road apparency clear. Just as Ihe motor crossed the railroad track a locomotive running about twenty miles an hour dashed out from be hind a freight train. The pilot of the engine struck the electric train between the motor and the car. earing them apart and burling one to each side of the track. At least a score of persons were on the car. There were a number strewed about in all directions, i Jne was hurled twenty feet away, and others pinned under the car. .vbich was demolished The street railroad barns were close lo the scene of the accident and a resca i.'g party was soon on hand. The victims were taken from th wreck uid lun ried away in ambulances to the hospital within a short space of time. All of them were so badly injured they had to be carried from the wreck. In the Jacksonville circuit court Charles Parker and Hany Little, indicted by the grand jury for lar eny, ilead guilty and were sen tenced by Judge Webster to three years each in the penitentiary. West Seattle celebrated he open ing ot a cable street railway re cently with great pomp and fes tivity. A large number of visitors fro.n the city were taken across on the ferry. Then they got on the 'rand new cars and rode all over ti e place, inspecting every point of interest. At the power house the visitors stopped for a little while to listen to some interesting' speaking by J. C. Met-alfe, Mr. James lddy and Judge Baruum, of Chicago. Music and refresh ments added to the general joy of the afternoon. Lane county court refused to grant the Oregonian Railway Com pany the county road around the point this side of Jasper. In all other cases where the county r.-ad w as asked for the court decided to grant the request on condition that the railway company pay the ex pense of securing a wagon road of proper width adjacent, and keep up a fence between the two. The lailway company is not satisfied in regard to the point near Jasper, and will probably bring suit. A dispatch from Spokane Falls says that John Wolvertine, a sec tion foreman on the North jrn l'a citic was walking along the track near the station when he was met by two Indians, one of whom he recognized as John Deer. The redskins seemed considerably under the influence of liquor and Wolvertine turned aside to allow i oeni to pass. They slopped him, however, and asked him for whisky. He replied that he had none, when John Deer struck him a savage blow over the head with a club. When Wolvertine came to iiis senses some time after, he found his scalp missing. He man aged to crawl to a saloon some distance away, where he was t.iken in and cared for. The celebration of the fortieth tinnivetsary of the admission of California "into the union was opened Saturday night by a street parade and an open air concert and display of fireworks at Union square. Native Sons, of the vari ous local parlors, veteran firemen, Ihe committee of arrangements of the ailmis-ion day celebration and a nnmlvT ' b'-mds of music took part in t e procession. Great crowds - t people were on the B reets ali along the line of march, in 1 much enthusiasm was man ifested. A dispatch from Medical Lake, Wash., says that Silver lake and also Clear lake, the former one mile east of town and the latter three miles south, will both be si cked with black bast in a few weeks by order of Marshall Mc Donald, commissioner on United stales fish and fisheries. This will be a grand thing for people who visit Medical lake ard wish to have a little sport with the hook' and line, us Medical lake is entirely void of fish, owing to the medical properties it contains. He sent a budget to Washington on tbe nrst tram. It contained an executive oider in pursuance of a section -of the naval appropriation bill, pro viding for the appointment of a commission to select a suitable northern boundary of California. The members of the commission are: Captain Thomas Selfridge, U. S. N. ; Geo. II. MendeU, corps if engineers; Thomas C. Piatt, of New York; Hon. Richard W. Thompson, of Indiana, and Lieut. Andrew B. Wyckoff, U. 8. N. Waather Report. Washington, Sept. 8. Rain has fallen in the Lake region and Cen tral valley. Local showers have fallen in the South Atlantic and Gulf states and heavy rains in Texas. The temperature has fallen in the Upper Lake region and Min nesota; thence south westward to Mexico. The fail has been very decided in Iowa, Illinois and Northern Missouri, light frosts having occurred in Northern Colo rado and Northern Iowa, and a killing frost in Western Minnesota.
