On September 9th balloting will begin in the Chicago Hoard of Di rectors of the World's Fair upon the subject ot the site, and it will be selected befo e the day's ad journment. The committee h:s received an answer from ben But ter worth, s.iying that the Judi ciary committee, now in Session at Philadelphia, accepts the sugges tion for holding a :ouference with a local committee in Chicago, in stead of Philadelphia, some time next month, to settle the old ques tion of the respective jurisdictions of the national commission aud tie local directory. It is at least cheering to know that the question oi location mur-t soon be determined. The local board at Chicago has been no pull ed and han led t hi way and that by diverse in ten sts, and has tried so hard to please every faction anil every interna that it has been a serious question whether or not an aree nent could be reached at all. That went on regularly during his term, and strange to say when he retired from office there wa more geld in the count y than in l8o. And more marvelous still is the fact that when a republican congress passed a law n ore than doubling the purchases of silver the price oi thewhite metal instead ol depreciat ing mounted steadily upward, and will probably reach a parity with gold on the ratio oi lb to 1 in a few days.
